OBJECTIVE: To review data describing use of intermittent dosing of alendronate.
DATA SOURCES: A comprehensive literature search was conducted using MEDLINE (1966-May 2001) and EMBASE (1974-May 2001) databases to identify all information regarding intermittent dosing of alendronate.
DATA SYNTHESIS: A small number of clinical studies have evaluated the use of intermittent alendronate dosing in an attempt to improve patient compliance and adverse events.
CONCLUSIONS: Evidence from more controlled clinical trials and postmarketing data are needed to demonstrate the therapeutic efficacy and tole

The effectiveness of mebendazole as a microfilaricide in patients with loiasis was studied. The drug regimen was 1 g twice daily for 21 days in adults. During and after treatment, the microfilarial density was unchanged. Therefore, mebendazole has no direct effect on the microfilarial density of Loa loa.

Migraine is a cyclical condition in which the cycles may occur or remit in an unpredictable fashion. The goal of prophylactic antimigraine therapy is to induce remission of an active cycle of migraine or to inhibit occurrence of individual headaches until the cycle remits for other reasons. Thiamphenicol was used to treat 547 men with chancroid. An oral dose of 2.5g was given on the first day and a further dose of 1.25g a week later if the lesions had not healed. Eighty-seven (15.9%) patients defaulted from follow up and 23 (4.2%) had positive serological test results for syphilis. Of the remaining 437 patients, 27 (6.2%) failed to respond to treatment, 258 (59%) were cured after the single dose, and 152 (34.8%) required a second dose. The overall cure rate was 93.8%.
