The effect of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticle concentration on the adhesion of mucin and Streptococcus mutans to heat-cured acrylic resin.

Incorporating zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles as antibacterial fillers in heat-cured acrylic resin could decrease mucin and Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) adhesion, reducing the incidence of dental caries in the baseplates of orthodontic patients. Here, ZnO nanoparticles were modified using 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate with various concentrations, added to acrylic resin powder, homogenized, mixed with acrylic resin liquid, and processed. The composite systems interfered well with mucin and S. mutans adhesion. The lowest mean of the amount of mucin adhered was on heat-cured acrylic r

Modified microabrasion protocol associated with resin infiltration. Two case reports.

Resin infiltration is an alternative for arresting and masking white spot lesions (WSLs). However, depending on their extent, depth, and activity, the voids within their body may not be completely filled by the infiltrant, leaving a certain degree of porosity inside the infiltrated lesion. The two case reports presented in this article aim to propose a modified microabrasion protocol for treating the enamel surface before resin infiltration to improve the esthetic outcome of teeth presenting inactive WSLs. The clinical procedures are described step by step based on data from the scientific lit

Highly Strong Interface Adhesion of Polyester Fiber Rubber Composite via Fiber Surface Modification by Meta-Cresol/Formaldehyde Latex Dipping Emulsion.

As a skeleton material, polyester (PET) fiber can significantly improve the strength and durability of rubber composites, but the interfacial adhesion between polyester fiber and rubber is poor due to the chemical inertia of PET fiber surface. Resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex (RFL) impregnating solution is usually used to treat PET fibers, but RFL contains toxic components such as resorcinol, which is harmful to the human body. A simple and less toxic resin-impregnating system cresol-formaldehyde-latex (CFL) was obtained by alternating resorcinol with low-toxicity cresol and m-cresol formaldehyde

Evaluation of the marginal integrity of a bioactive restorative material.

This in vitro study evaluated the marginal microleakage of a bioactive restorative with other restorative materials in standard Class V preparations. Sixty previously extracted, noncarious human molars were randomly assigned to 3 experimental groups (n = 20): a bioactive composite resin, a universal hybrid composite resin, and a resin-modified glass ionomer restorative. Class V cavities were prepared on the facial or lingual surface of each tooth so that coronal margins were located in enamel and apical margins in cementum (dentin). After the cavity preparations were restored with the appropri

Case Report: A novel 3D-printed dual-matrix system for guided fabrication of indirect anterior composite veneers.

Resin composite veneers are widely used for esthetic rehabilitation of anterior teeth, offering a minimally invasive approach to restore tooth form and harmony. In indirect techniques, a digital diagnostic wax-up can define the final morphology; however, its accurate transfer to the clinical setting remains challenging and operator-dependent, potentially compromising restoration adaptation and introducing variability at the adhesive interface. This study describes a novel 3D-printed dual matrix system designed to improve the accuracy and reproducibility of the digital wax-up transfer. In the p

Minimally invasive approach to hypoplastic stains with complementary color neutralization: A clinical report.

A minimally invasive technique is described for masking enamel hypoplasia stains in a young patient with minimal or no tooth wear and different opacity patterns on the central and lateral incisors, canines, and first molars. The selected technique involved masking the affected substrate with resin pigments in complementary colors to the stain, followed by a composite resin overlay with minimal tooth structure wear. After pigmentation, the stains were neutralized, resulting in a neutral gray substrate that required the use of a higher-value composite resin to achieve complete stain masking. Thi

Mechanical and Electronic Properties of Al(111)/6H-SiC Interfaces: A DFT Study.

A density functional theory (DFT) calculation is carried out in this work to investigate the effect of vacancies on the behavior of Al(111)/6H SiC composites. Generally, DFT simulations with appropriate interface models can be an acceptable alternative to experimental methods. We developed two modes for Al/SiC superlattices: C-terminated and Si-terminated interface configurations. C and Si vacancies reduce interfacial adhesion near the interface, while Al vacancies have little effect. Supercells are stretched vertically along the z-direction to obtain tensile strength. Esthetic rehabilitation of avulsed-replanted anterior teeth: a case report.

Avulsion is a complex injury affecting the pulp, periodontal ligament and the alveolar bone. Avulsed permanent teeth can survive following replantation. However, post-traumatic external root resorption eventually resulting in loss of the traumatized tooth is a frequent finding. After replantation of the avulsed teeth, esthetic requirements can be needed. Treatment options include porcelain laminate veneers, metal-ceramic restorations and all-ceramic crowns as well as minimally invasive procedures such as direct resin composite bonding. This article describes the restoration of avulsed and repl
