BACKGROUND: Although topical corticosteroids are considered a safe and effective drug for allergic rhinitis (AR), some AR patients do not show sufficient symptomatic improvement by use of topical corticosteroids. Topical cyclosporine is a safe and effective drug for patients with allergic conjunctivitis, particularly for those with steroid-resistant allergic conjunctivitis. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effect of response intensity of allergen skin prick test (SPT) on symptom severity and long-term efficacy of dust mite subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) in allergic rhinitis (AR).
METHODS: AR Patients diagnosed with dust mite allergy and completed 3 years of SCIT were collected and classified into three groups: grade 2 (SPT of + +), grade 3 (SPT of + + +) and grade 4 (SPT of + + + +). Comparisons between groups were performed to examine the associations of SPT categories and symptom severity and the long-term efficacy of SCIT in AR.

OBJECTIVE: To describe patterns of conjunctivitis caused by ophthalmic decongestants.
DESIGN: Case series.
SETTING: Outpatient eye clinic.
PATIENTS: We selected patients with conjunctival inflammation who were using nonprescription decongestant eyedrops, who had no other cause for conjunctivitis, and whose conditions improved after discontinuing the incriminated preparations.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Clinical characteristics of conjunctival inflammation and time to resolution of symptoms and signs after discontinuing the use of eyedrops.
RESULTS: Seventy patients (137 eyes) were identified.

Rarely, chronic inflammation of the upper eyelid and the formation of giant papillary conjunctivitis due to vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) may lead to ptosis. Levocabastine is a new selective H1 receptor antagonist. The effect of the drug administered locally was compared to placebo in a quantified nasal and conjunctival provocation test with allergens performed in patients allergic to grass pollen. In the nasal provocation test, levocabastine was able to increase the 'reaction threshold' (dose of allergen necessary to trigger allergic symptoms) in 9 out of 12 patients; the drug inhibited rhinorrhea and sneezing, but not nasal obstruction.
