Posterior nasal nerve (PNN) cryoablation is a novel surgical technique used to address chronic rhinitis. The purpose of this study is to review the medical device reports (MDRs) submitted to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Manufacturer and User Device Facility Experience (MAUDE) database to identify adverse events related to the use of ClariFix, a device designed for office-based cryosurgical ablation of the PNN. Thermal ablative techniques are used increasingly to treat renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Percutaneous cryoablation of tumors at the upper pole of the kidney may result in pulmonary damage due to the intervening lung parenchyma. We treated two patients with RCC in the upper pole of the kidney by inducing pneumothorax with a pneumoperitoneum needle before proceeding to percutaneous cryoablation. The procedures, performed under computed tomography (CT) fluoroscopy guidance, resulted in complete tumor necrosis. There was no pulmonary damage.

Ureteral stricture is one of the most common complications following renal transplant. Current treatment options are limited to mainly surgery or balloon dilation, but mixed results and refractory cases present the opportunity for alternative treatments. Anterograde balloon cryoplasty of a benign ureteric stricture was performed in a renal transplant patient, after attempts with ballooning and stenting had failed. A 2-year follow-up demonstrates normal creatinine and no hydronephrosis on US images.

The objective of the work was to compare the effectiveness of transscleral laser photocoagulation and cryocoagulation of the retina in the treatment of retinopathy of premature infants (ROP). During the period from March 1999 to April 2001 at the Ophthalmological Clinic for children and adults in the Motol Faculty Hospital 80 eyes of 40 children with the borderline stage of ROP were treated. In 40 eyes cryocoagulation was performed, in 40 transcleral photocoagulation of the retina.
