OBJECTIVE: Using molecular epidemiology methods to investigate relationship between genotypes and drug-resistance of neisseria (N.) gonorrhoeae in Shanghai area.
METHODS: A random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprint method at the molecular level was used to differentiate the strains which were isolated from the outpatients of sexually transmitted disease clinics. The sensitivity to antibiotic of the 78 N. gonorrhoeae strains on 9 different antibiotics was tested and the relationship between different genotypes and phenotypes was studied.

The molecular classification of endometrial cancer developed by The Cancer Genome Atlas project (TCGA, 2013) is currently actively used in gynecological oncology. According to it, endometrial carcinoma is divided into four molecular subtypes: POLE-mutated, MMR deficient (dMMR), TP53-aberrant and unspecified. Identification of iduronate-2-sulfatase (IDS) gene mutations in patients with mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II, Hunter syndrome) allows fast and reliable carrier detection in females, relatives of the patients. We describe here a study on a Hunter family where, after the identification of the primary genetic defect in the patients, we identified carriers unambiguously among at-risk female relatives and excluded such status in other subjects. Mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and epidemiological relationships were investigated for five multiresistant strains of Salmonella typhimurium isolated from fish in India. Four strains showed resistance to nalidixic acid, chloramphenicol, tetracycline, co-trimoxazole, gentamicin and beta-lactam antibiotics. AIM: To investigate the relation between gastric cancer and microsatellite instability (MSI), loss of heterozygosity (LOH) and promoter region methylation.
METHODS: Fifty primary gastric carcinoma specimens were collected from patients with no family history of cancer. In addition, normal tissues were also collected from patients as controls. DNA was extracted by polymerase chain reaction for single-strand conformation polymorphism, bisulfite DNA sequencing, and methylation-specific band analysis.
