Suspected oncologic adverse reactions associated with interleukin-23 inhibitors in EudraVigilance: Comparative study and gender distribution.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by plaque formation. Interleukin (IL)-23 is upregulated in psoriatic lesions and is thought to be a major regulator of the Th17 pathway in psoriasis pathogenesis. Three monoclonal antibodies targeting the IL-23p19 subunit, guselkumab, tildrakizumab, and risankizumab, have been approved for psoriasis therapy. The balance between cytokines IL-23 and IL-12 can affect antitumor and pro-tumor immune activities, and patients with psoriasis may have higher rates of cancer than the general population. Moreover, a chronic inflammatory state

Global, regional, and national incidence and prevalence of systemic sclerosis.

OBJECTIVES: To estimate the global and country-specific unbiased epidemiological data of SSc. METHODS: Epidemiological studies were systematically searched in four databases. A Bayesian hierarchical linear mixed model was constructed to estimate epidemiological data. RESULTS: 82 studies were included and epidemiological data on SSc were missing for 83.9% of countries worldwide. The global SSc incidence and newly diagnosed population were estimated to be 8.64 per 100,000 person-years (1.78-23.57) and 0.67 million (0.14-1.84) people annually, respectively. Regarding prevalence, the global SSc

First Argentine database for the accurate identification of Brucella to species level by MALDI-TOF MS.

MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS) has proven to be a fast and reliable method for the identification of a large number of taxonomic groups. It offers the advantage of being able to incorporate protein spectra of microorganisms that are absent or poorly represented in commercial databases, such as the genus Brucella. The aim of the study was to build the first database of protein spectra of local biological variants of Brucella in Argentina and of standard strains. First, the identification performance of a panel of 135 strains was evaluated with the Swedish database ¨Folkhälsomyndigheten¨ (cont

Catastrophic Health Care Expenditure Following Brachial Plexus Injury.

PURPOSE: Brachial plexus injuries (BPIs) are devastating to patients not only functionally but also financially. Like patients experiencing other traumatic injuries and unexpected medical events, patients with BPIs are at risk of catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) in which out-of-pocket health spending exceeds 40% of postsubsistence income (income remaining after food and housing expenses). The individual financial strain after BPIs has not been previously quantified. The purpose of this study was to assess the proportion of patients with BPIs who experience risk of CHE after reconstructive

Reasons for non-disclosure of HIV-Positive status to healthcare providers: a mixed methods study in Mozambique.

BACKGROUND: Non-disclosure of known HIV status by people living with HIV but undergoing HIV testing leads to waste of HIV testing resources and distortion of estimates of HIV indicators. In Mozambique, an estimated one-third of persons who tested positive already knew their HIV-positive status. To our knowledge, this study is the first to assess the factors that prevent people living with HIV (PLHIV) from disclosing their HIV-positive status to healthcare providers during a provider-initiated counseling and testing (PICT) campaign. METHODS: This analysis was nested in a larger PICT cross-sect

MonkeyNet: A robust deep convolutional neural network for monkeypox disease detection and classification.

The monkeypox virus poses a new pandemic threat while we are still recovering from COVID-19. Despite the fact that monkeypox is not as lethal and contagious as COVID-19, new patient cases are recorded every day. If preparations are not made, a global pandemic is likely. Deep learning (DL) techniques are now showing promise in medical imaging for figuring out what diseases a person has. The monkeypox virus-infected human skin and the region of the skin can be used to diagnose the monkeypox early because an image has been used to learn more about the disease. But there is still no reliable Monke

Bioinformatics Analysis Identifies Key Genes in Recurrent Implantation Failure Based on Immune Infiltration.

Recurrent implantation failure (RIF) is a thorny problem often encountered in the field of assisted reproduction. Existing evidences suggest that immune dysregulation may be involved in the pathogenesis of RIF. The purpose of this study is to explore immune-related genes contributing to RIF through data mining. The endometrial expression profiles of 24 RIF and 24 controls were obtained from the GEO database. The immune infiltration in bulk tissue was estimated by single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) method based on marker gene sets for immune cells generated from endometrial sin

Population risk profile analysis of acute uncomplicated type B aortic dissection patients undergoing thoracic endovascular aortic repair.

BACKGROUND: Uncomplicated type B aortic dissection (unTBAD) comprises the estimated majority of type B aortic dissection (TBAD), presenting without any of the complications associated with complicated TBAD (coTBAD). Although first-line treatment for coTBAD is thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), and despite the fact that TEVAR has proven its safety and effectiveness in the treatment of unTBAD, unTBAD is still being predominantly managed conservatively with medical therapy, with a small proportion of patients being offered TEVAR. AIMS: The main scope of this review is to highlight the

Eosinophilic meningitis epidemiological data from a national database in Thailand's Department of Disease Control: a pragmatic, retrospective analytical study.

BACKGROUND: Eosinophilic meningitis (EOM) is a rare neurological disease that can be misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed. Based on reported cases in the literature, there have been 2,827 cases worldwide since 1945. There are limited data on the prevalence and trends of EOM in a real-world setting, even in Thailand, the country with the highest prevalence of EOM. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of EOM and EOM epidemiological data in a real-world setting. METHODS: This was a pragmatic, retrospective analytical study using a national database. We retrieved EOM epidemiological d

COVID-19 outbreak in Lombardy: Impact on reducing solid cancer diagnoses in 2020.

Our aim was to analyse, on a population level, the year-long decline in cancer diagnoses in the region of Lombardy (Italy), and to characterise the tumours with the greatest reduction in diagnosis by patient age, sex and tumour stage at diagnosis. We used the health care utilisation databases of the Lombardy region to identify cancer patients' characteristics (eg, sex, age) and cancer-related information (eg, cancer site, stage at diagnosis). The frequency of new cancer diagnoses in 2019 and 2020 were compared in terms of percentage differences in undiagnosed cases. We observed two peaks in th
