AIM: Nocturnal exacerbation of pulpitis-induced pain severely disrupts patients' sleep and quality of life, increasing emergency dental care burden. However, the exact mechanisms underlying nocturnal pain remain poorly understood, limiting the development of targeted analgesic strategies. Here, we explored the circadian characteristics of pulpitis-induced pain in mice and the role of clock genes in its nocturnal exacerbation.
METHODOLOGY: An experimental pulpitis model was established via pulp exposure, with stability confirmed by Micro-computed tomography and haematoxylin and eosin staining.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of a ferrule, post system, and length on the stress distribution of weakened root-filled teeth.
METHODS: The investigation was conducted by using 3-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis. A sound tooth and 8 3D models of a weakened root-filled central incisor were generated using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing software. The models were created without a ferrule and with a 2.0-mm ferrule, restored with a relined glass fiber post or a cast post and core (Cpc), and 12.0- and 7.0-mm post lengths. Each 3D model

Spinal cord injury (SCI) commonly induces nerve damage and nerve cell degeneration. In this work, a novel dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) encapsulated thermoresponsive injectable hydrogel with sustained hydrogen sulfide (H2S) delivery is demonstrated for SCI repair. For controlled and sustained H2S gas therapy, a clinically tested H2S donor (JK) loaded octysilane functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles (OMSNs) are incorporated into the thermosensitive hydrogel made from Pluronic F127 (PF-127). The JK-loaded functionalized MSNs (OMSF@JK) promote preferential M2-like polarization of macrop

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is the second most common non-epithelial malignant tumor in the cervicofacial region. Among aggressive NHL, the most common histological type is diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). A 44-year-old man presented himself at the oral surgery consultation for the development of isolated dental mobilities associated with mandibular osteolytic lesion. The extraoral examination showed nothing. The neurological examination did not reveal dysesthesia or hypoesthesia. The endo-buccal examination showed an erythematous gum, mobility stage 3 of teeth #42 to 35 with positive p

This study develops a dual-mode antibacterial orthodontic adhesive by integrating quaternary ammonium salt-modified large-pore mesoporous silica nanoparticles (QLMSN@CHX). The material integrates two antibacterial mechanisms: (1) contact killing via covalently anchored quaternary ammonium salts (QACs) and (2) sustained release of chlorhexidine (CHX) from radially aligned macropores. The experimental results demonstrated that QLMSN@CHX (5 wt%) achieved rapid biofilm eradication (near-complete biofilm eradication at 24 h) and prolonged antibacterial activity, while maintaining shear bond strengt

Bioelectricity plays multiple roles in the human body, including cellular signaling and molecular-level expression. It can be hypothesized that applying microcurrent to the human body can induce physiological change, optimally producing desired therapeutic effects. In this research, we developed an indium tin oxide (ITO) conductive glass-based microcurrent stimulation (MCS) device incorporating chitosan-poly(ethylene glycol) blended calcium phosphate cement (CS/PEG-CPC) to ultimately regenerate dental pulp by simultaneously differentiating dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) into osteogenic and neu

This study addresses the morphological and chemical characterization of PGS scaffolds after (6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 min) residence in undoped pyrrole plasma (PGS-PPy) and the evaluation of cell viability with human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). The results were compared with a previous study that used iodine-doped pyrrole (PGS-PPy/I). Analyses through SEM and AFM revealed alterations in the topography and quantity of deposited PPy particles. FTIR spectra of PGS-PPy scaffolds confirmed the presence of characteristic absorption peaks of PPy, with higher intensities observed in the nitrile and

INTRODUCTION: This report describes the clinical management of a case in which a maxillary central incisor was lost after a traumatic injury.
METHODS: A mandibular premolar with incomplete root development was transplanted into the alveolar socket of the lost central incisor.
RESULTS: The case evolved favorably for 12 years, remaining vital to pulp sensitivity tests and developing a favorable crown-root ratio even after it was orthodontically moved.
CONCLUSIONS: Premolar autotransplantation should be considered an important and valid biological alternative in cases of premature tooth loss b

The prognosis of injured teeth involving horizontal mid-root fractures is poor and depends heavily on pulpal vitality, periodontal health and the repositioning of the tooth to its original position. Here, we report the case of an upper right central incisor presenting a horizontal mid-root fracture, complicated by impaction of the coronal fragment in the external alveolar bone, which in turn prevented the repositioning of the tooth fragment. As a consequence, it was necessary to raise a full-thickness flap and perform window-osteotomy to free the coronal fragment and reset the fractured fragme

INTRODUCTION: Recently, we reported that in mandibular molars contracted endodontic cavities (CECs) improved fracture strength compared with traditional endodontic cavities (TECs) but compromised instrumentation efficacy in distal canals. This study assessed the impacts of CECs on instrumentation efficacy and axial strain responses in maxillary molars.
METHODS: Eighteen extracted intact maxillary molars were imaged with micro-computed tomographic imaging (12-μm voxel), assigned to CEC or TEC groups (n = 9/group), and accessed accordingly. Canals were instrumented (V-Taper2H; SSWhite Dental, L

Cationic steroid antimicrobials (CSA-ceragenin), which includes CSA44 and CSA 131, constitute a novel family of antimicrobial drugs. This study aims to examine the antibacterial and antifungal properties of CSA-44 and CSA-131 against Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), Enterococcus faecalis, and Candida albicans. Additionally, the cytotoxic effects of both compounds were addressed using dental pulp stem cell lines. The CSA-44 compound with a concentration of 0.05% yielded the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 0.04 µg/mL against E. faecalis. The minimum
