BACKGROUND: Hexavalent chromium in cement is a common cause of occupational allergic contact dermatitis (OACD).
METHODS: Analysis of patch test data during 1999 to 2013 was done. Patients with cement-induced chromate OACD filled the Dermatology Life Quality Index, graded 1 to 5.
RESULTS: Of 4846 consecutive patients who were patch tested, 146 (3%) were chromate-sensitive. Of 46 (31.5%) who presented with chromate OACD, 27 (59%) had cement-induced chromate OACD. The proportion of chromate-sensitive patients with clinically relevant cement exposure increased from 7.7% in 2002 to 2004 to 28.7%

Inflammation of the skin is the pathological base of contact dermatitis (CD), and cytokines are very important in its pathogenesis. Recently it has been shown that interferon (IFN)-γ, and the IFN-γ dependent chemokines, monokine induced by IFN-γ (MIG), IFN-γ-induced protein 10 (IP-10), and IFN-inducible T cell alpha chemoattractant (I-TAC), play an important role in CD. Allergic CD (ACD) is a T-cell-mediated disease in which expression of a distinct repertoire of chemokines results in the recruitment of effector T cells into the skin. An increased expression of MIG, IP-10 and I-TAC in the skin

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the epidemiology of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in US children. More widespread diagnostic confirmation through epicutaneous patch testing is needed.
OBJECTIVE: The aim was to quantify patch test results from providers evaluating US children.
METHODS: The study is a retrospective analysis of deidentified patch test results of children aged 18 years or younger, entered by participating providers in the Pediatric Contact Dermatitis Registry, during the first year of data collection (2015-2016).
RESULTS: One thousand one hundred forty-two cases from 34 U

Allergic contact dermatitis is a common diagnosis resulting from exposure to a chemical or chemicals in a patient's personal care products, home, or work environment. Once patch testing has been performed, the education and management process begins. After the causative allergens have been identified, patient education is critical to the proper treatment and management of the patient. This must occur if the dermatitis is to resolve. Detailed education is imperative, and several resources are highlighted. Photoallergic contact dermatitis and occupational contact dermatitis are other considerati

BACKGROUND: Limonene is widely used as a fragrance substance and solvent in cleansing products. Oxidized limonene is a frequent contact allergen among consumers of cosmetics, personal care products, and scented household cleaning products. Less is known about the sources of occupational exposure and occupational contact dermatitis caused by limonene.
OBJECTIVE: To report 14 patients with occupational contact allergy to limonene.
METHODS: The patients were examined in 2008-2013. An in-house preparation of oxidized limonene was patch tested as 3% and 5% in petrolatum from 2008 to August 2010,

Contact dermatitis due to cosmetic products is a common dermatologic complaint that considerably affects the patient's quality of life. Diagnosis, treatment, and preventive strategies represent a substantial cost. This condition accounts for 2% to 4% of all visits to the dermatologist, and approximately 60% of cases are allergic in origin. Most cases are caused by skin hygiene and moisturizing products, followed by cosmetic hair and nail products. Fragrances are the most common cause of allergy to cosmetics, followed by preservatives and hair dyes; however, all components, including natural in

BACKGROUND: Alkyl glucosides were not expected to have a sensitizing potential at the concentrations to be used in finished consumer products; however, several contact allergy cases have been published.
OBJECTIVES: To report on the patients suffering from allergic contact dermatitis caused by alkyl glucosides observed in our department.
PATIENTS/METHODS: During a 19-year period (1993-2012), 11 842 patients with suspected contact dermatitis were patch tested with the European baseline series and, if relevant, also with other series and individual allergens. For this study, the clinical data a

Connubial or consort allergic contact dermatitis occurs when the agent causing the dermatitis has not been used by the patient but by his partner or other cohabitants or proxy. Most cases are due to fragrances, cosmetics or topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents. We report a case of a connubial dermatitis caused by topical diphenhydramine in a woman who applied the cream on her husband's back.

Allergic contact dermatitis due to fragrances usually manifests as subacute or chronic dermatitis because fragrances are found in a wide range of products to which patients are repeatedly exposed. The typical patient is a middle-aged woman with dermatitis on her hands and face, although other sites may be affected depending on the allergen and the product in which it is found. The standard patch test series of the Spanish Contact Dermatitis and Skin Allergy Research Group (GEIDAC) contains 4 fragrance markers: balsam of Peru, fragrance mix i, fragrance mix ii, and lyral. Testing with a specifi

Fragrances are a large group of substances and the second most common cause of allergic contact dermatitis in Spain. These potential allergens are extremely common and the general population is subject to continuous exposure on a daily basis. While the fragrance markers included in the current Spanish standard patch test series are good, there is room for improvement. New markers that have emerged in recent years have proven to be of value in standard series used in other countries. Diagnosing fragrance allergy has taken on even greater importance since the European Union added 26 fragrances t

BACKGROUND: Compositae-related chemicals cause allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in children with atopic dermatitis (AD). Moisturizers can be an overlooked exposure source.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate ACD in children with recalcitrant AD and a reported history of intolerance to Aquaphor Healing Ointment (AHO) moisturizer.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed charts of children patch-tested to the ingredients of AHO moisturizer who had a history of intolerance, as well as of additional patch-tested patients with exposure to bisabolol in their personal hygiene products and without a history of prod
