Dermatologic signs in toxic shock syndrome--clues to diagnosis.

A diffuse scarlatiniform erythroderma, bulbar conjunctival hyperemia, and striking palmar edema were impressive findings in two patients who developed toxic shock syndrome (TSS). In addition to the rash which is always seen, the latter two features have been observed in high frequency in this condition and when present are useful aids in the diagnosis of this disease.

Dapsone Hypersensitivity Syndrome (DHS): A Detrimental Effect of Dapsone? A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Dapsone is a sulfone derived drug used in the treatment of leprosy and several chronic inflammatory dermatological diseases. [Emerging parasitic zoonoses: leishmaniosis].

Leishmanioses are a group of parasitic diseases that affect man and other mammals. They are caused by different species of trypanosomatids of the genus Leishmania Ross, 1903 and have tegumentary and/or visceral manifestations. The distribution of this re-emerging disease, which is found throughout the world (except in Antarctica), is influenced by various factors linked to both human activity and climatic change. The heteroecious life cycle of the Leishmania includes an invertebrate host (sandflies of the Phlebotomidae family). The dog is the main reservoir for many of the Leishmania species,

Patch testing in the detection of cutaneous reactions caused by carbamazepine.

Carbamazepine is a widely used antiepileptic drug associated with various side effects including skin eruptions. Peroral provocation test with any suspected drug is a reliable method of investigating the etiology: however, it is both laborious and potentially dangerous to the patient. Patch testing has been reported with variable success in skin drug reactions. Four cases (one male, three females) with epileptic seizures were reviewed; all had received carbamazepine therapy with appropriate dosage, then suffered from various cutaneous reactions including maculopapular exanthema, exfoliative de
