Scaly scalp is a common problem in the pediatric and adult population. The possible causes range from the commonly seen tinea capitis, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis to rare diseases such as lupus erythematosus and lichen planus. In all cases a thorough history and physical examination are important first steps to successful diagnosis and treatment.

Seborrhoeic dermatitis is a frequent chronic inflammatory dermatosis characterized by erythematous patches surmounted by fatty and yellowish scales, affecting particularly the scalp, the naso-labial folds and the eyebrows. Its etio-pathogeny is still not clear, but Malassezia type yeast appear to play a very important role in its development. Several conditions can be associated with high prevalency of seborrhoeic dermatitis (HIV, Parkinson's disease, Down's Syndrome). No curative treatment is available yet, but nevertheless the symptomatology can be controlled, mainly with topical treatments,

INTRODUCTION: Trichoscopy greatly facilitates clinical diagnosis in patients with hair loss and may decrease the necessity for histopathological examination. Structures which may be revealed by trichoscopy include hair shafts, hair follicle openings, the perifollicular epidermis, and cutaneous microvessels. Cutaneous microvessels revealed in trichoscopy may vary in type and number depending on the scalp area, type of the disease, and its activity. Firm direct pressure (diascopy) might result in their blanching, but as of yet, there are no studies on the types of vessels that do or do not blanc

Annular facial dermatoses in blacks are common. Although the diagnosis of these dermatoses is usually made without difficulty, occasionally problems are encountered. A patient with annular seborrheic dermatitis that closely resembled the annular lesions of secondary syphilis is presented. The differential diagnosis of annular facial lesions in the black patient is then briefly reviewed.

A number of dermatology conditions including skin photodamage, atopic dermatitis, and rosacea involve skin barrier impairment and first line therapies for these conditions including retinoids and steroids further impair skin barrier function. We have evaluated the compatibility of myristyl nicotinate, an agent that enhances skin barrier function, with drugs used to treat conditions where skin barrier impairment is present including photodamage (retinoic acid), atopic dermatitis (hydrocortisone, triamcinolone acetonide), rosacea (metronidazole), and seborrheic dermatitis (ketoconazole). Myristy

Allergic contact dermatitis has been considered the most common of the many dermatologic conditions found with eyelid dermatitis. This is a retrospective study of 203 patients who presented with persistent or recurrent eyelid dermatitis with or without dermatitis elsewhere. Almost all underwent patch testing and, when indicated, radioallergosorbent test, skin prick and intradermal tests, and in many cases, usage tests as part of the workup. Relevant allergic contact dermatitis was found in 151 of 203 patients (74.%): 46 (23.%) had protein contact dermatitis, but only 7% had protein contact der
