We present the results of the third year of follow-up of a group of 100 patients wearing disposable contact lenses on an extended wear basis. Thirty-seven males and 63 females participated in the study. The mean patient age was 41.76 years (SD: 14.5), and the mean patient follow-up time was 37.73 months (SD: 5.25). AIM/OBJECTIVES: To assess the knowledge and practice of infection prevention and control (IPC) among community health extension workers (CHEWs) in primary healthcare facilities in Southeast Nigeria and examine the relationship between IPC knowledge and preventive practices.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 328 CHEWs in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria, using a multistage sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured pre-tested questionnaire and analysed with IBM SPSS version 20. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests were performed at p ≤ 0.05.

The paper deals with recovery of yttrium from fluorescent powder coming from dismantling of spent fluorescent tubes. Metals are leached by using different acids (nitric, hydrochloric and sulphuric) and ammonia in different leaching tests. These tests show that ammonia is not suitable to recover yttrium, whereas HNO(3) produces toxic vapours. A full factorial design is carried out with HCl and H(2)SO(4) to evaluate the influence of operating factors. BACKGROUND: Early initiation of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) applied by face mask benefits patients with acute cardiogenic pulmonary oedema (ACPE). The simple disposable Boussignac CPAP (BCPAP) has been used in ambulances by physicians. In the Netherlands, ambulances are manned by nurses and not physicians. CDC and WHO guidelines for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) diagnosis only recommend synthetic fiber swabs for nasopharyngeal (NP) sampling. We show that cotton-tipped plastic swabs do not inhibit PCR and have equivalent performance to rayon swabs. Cotton-tipped plastic swabs are massively produced worldwide and would prevent swab supply shortages under the current high SARS-CoV-2 testing demands, particularly in developing countries.
