A case of a giant diverticulum of the sigmoid colon is presented. The etiology, differential diagnosis, clinical features and treatment are discussed.

The literature on the normal structure and function as well as on ulceration of the preputial diverticulum is reviewed. From personal studies it is concluded that ulceration of the preputial diverticulum is also common in boars in the Netherlands.

A case of female urethral diverticulum is reported by the authors. It is a rare disease and about 31 cases have previously been described. An analysis is made in relation to the diverticulum of the urethra and to female urethral carcinoma. Emphasis is given on the semiology and the recently acquired diagnostic procedures, as these have led to an increased number of recognized cases. In the case presented, an extended resection and a definitive urinary derivation was performed, together with chemo- and radiotherapy. A follow-up of 2.5 years showed no signs of recurrence or metastases.

Four patients with intraluminal diverticulum of the duodenum are presented and compared with those reported previously. This lesion is a rare congenital disorder that usually becomes symptomatic in adult life. It is located in the second portion of the duodenum within the lumen, extending distally. It has the appearance of a "thumb of a glove" and it is lined by mucosa on both surfaces. An operation was required in 78 children with vesical diverticula in the absence of bladder outlet obstruction. Virtually all diverticula were located in juxtaposition to the ureteral orifice and were associated with vesicoureteral reflux in all but 6 of 89 diverticulum-ureteral units. Upper tract changes were seen on excretory urography in 78 per cent of the refluxing units. The surgical procedure of choice was diverticulectomy and ureteroneocystostomy, which yielded a high degree of success. Diverticulectomy alone and vesical neck revision were rarely indicated.
