[Sociotechnical healthcare networks for acupuncture: a case study on the basic training of medical students].

This is a qualitative study on the sociotechnical networks that underlie the University of São Paulo School of Medicine's Acupuncture League. The actor-network methodology, developed by Bruno Latour in studies on scientific productivity, is used. Consisting of field observations, semistructured interviews and a document analysis, the study presents relevant findings, with emphasis on understanding acupuncture as a therapeutic strategy effective in healthcare, modulating the use of drugs. It also identifies the need for regulation of the teaching and practice of acupuncture and recognition of o

Telenutrition health education program to increase nutritional awareness, attitude, and dietary diversity among secondary high school adolescent girls in rural area of Bangladesh: A quasi-experimental study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Telenutrition, using telehealth technologies for remote nutritional care, has proven effective in primary care. Nutritional deficiencies constitute a global health burden, characterized by chronic undernutrition and micronutrient deficiencies, especially in adolescent girls in impoverished nations such as Bangladesh. Telenutrition, which uses digital technologies to provide remote nutritional treatment, is a promising strategy to decrease this burden. This study aims to determine the impact of telenutrition education on improving nutritional awareness, attitude, and dietary diversi

The use of handheld ultrasound devices: a position statement of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (2018 update).

Recent technological advances in echocardiography, with progressive miniaturization of ultrasound machines, have led to the development of handheld ultrasound devices (HUD). These devices, no larger than some mobile phones, can be used to perform partial, focused exams as an extension to the physical examination. The European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) acknowledges that the dissemination of appropriate HUD use is inevitable and desirable, because of its potential impact on patient management. However, as a scientific society of cardiac imaging, our role is to provide guidanc

The Experiences of and Teaching Strategies for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Foreign Language Learners: A Systematic Review of the Literature.

Although foreign language (FL) educational experiences for students with disabilities including deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students, are becoming more common, there is little research available on this topic. The purpose of the present review was to identify research examining DHH students' FL learning experiences and teaching strategies used in the FL class to facilitate language learning. The search showed that few studies have explored this area, and even fewer have met quality standards. Among the existing studies, the results revealed that communication methods in FL class instruction

Mixed-reality view of cardiac specimens: a new approach to understanding complex intracardiac congenital lesions.

Digital reality is an emerging platform for three-dimensional representation of medical imaging data. In this technical innovation paper, the authors evaluated the accuracy and utility of mixed-reality technology in the morphological evaluation of complex congenital heart disease. The authors converted CT datasets of 12 heart specimens with different subtypes of double-outlet right ventricle to stereoscopic images and interrogated them using a mixed-reality system. The morphological features identified on the stereoscopic models were compared with findings at macroscopic examination of the act

Audiological and medical considerations for children with cochlear implants.

Recent advancements in technology have resulted in the development of implantable devices--cochlear implants--designed to maximize the sensation of hearing in the hearing-impaired population. For children who meet the numerous preselection criteria, the cochlear implant can be effective and beneficial. The implants must be inserted surgically, which involves placing an electrode array in the cochlea and attaching the receiver/stimulator to the skull. The child can usually be discharged from the hospital by the third postoperative day. The external device is fitted and initially stimulated abou

Technology Acceptance Among Low-Income Asian American Older Adults: Cross-Sectional Survey Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Studies show that the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs), including smartphones, tablets, computers, and the internet, varies by demographic factors such as age, gender, and educational attainment. However, the connections between ICT use and factors such as ethnicity and English proficiency, especially among Asian American older adults, remain less explored. The technology acceptance model (TAM) suggests that 2 key attitudinal factors, perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU), influence technology acceptance. While the TAM has been adapted

Understanding cyber grooming in children and adolescents: a scoping review of risk factors and prevention strategies.

The increasing digitalization of children's daily lives has created new opportunities for communication, education, and social interaction while simultaneously increasing exposure to online exploitation risks. Among these risks, child grooming and cyber grooming have emerged as significant psychological, social, and public health concerns. Cyber grooming extends traditional grooming processes into digital environments through the use of anonymity, persistent communication, and technological accessibility, enabling offenders to manipulate and exploit children and adolescents in online settings.

The use of eye tracking in supporting individuals with dyslexia: a review.

Dyslexia is defined as a specific learning disorder that impairs a person's ability to read fluently and accurately. A growing number of assistive technologies have been used to support individuals with dyslexia. Eye-tracking technology is one such technology, and it is gaining increasing attention from the research community due to its potential to be a valuable support tool for identifying underlying neural differences in language processing among this population. While the technology has seen significant advancements in recent years, researchers, particularly in psychology and special educa

The 'good mobile': a mobile launcher for children to facilitate human interactions.

Children today grow up in a hybrid physical and digital environment, engaging with mobile devices from an early age, which poses a risk of negatively impacting their development. This usage often replaces social interactions and physical activities, potentially deteriorating relationships, socio-cognitive skills, and mental health. Banning device use is unrealistic, but the way children use mobiles can be altered through responsible technology. In the present study we (1) explored parental expectations regarding children's mobile applications, (2) directlyincorporated these expectations into t

Perceived integration as a gratification facilitator: psychological drivers of students' continuance intention in blended learning.

What sustains students' intention to continue using educational technology? In blended learning, prior research identifies satisfaction as a key predictor of continuance intention but often treats it as a single construct and pays limited attention to the environmental conditions that enable different forms of gratification. This study extends Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT) in two ways. First, it introduces perceived integration as an environmental antecedent of gratification. Perceived integration captures the coherence students perceive between online and offline learning components an…
