CASE: In this article, we present a case report of a patient with limited medical history and without apparent local injury, who developed left hand Group A Streptococcus-induced necrotizing fasciitis after undergoing a prolonged endodontic procedure.
CONCLUSION: In addition to host factors, perhaps, the virulence of the bacteria present in the oropharynx and the expected bacterial load based on the length and complexity of a dental procedure need to be considered when deciding on whether or not to administer prophylactic antibiotics to patients undergoing dental procedures.

The treatment objective for children with avulsed anterior teeth should concentrate on preserving the alveolar bone volume and contour. Posttraumatic external inflammatory root resorption (EIRR) is also a high-risk complication often observed in children. Regenerative endodontic procedure (REP) has been considered a successful treatment to arrest EIRR, especially in posttraumatic cases. This case report presents clinical outcomes of REP in two teeth of an 8-year-old systemically healthy patient with a history of severe dentoalveolar traumatic injury, one with a history of avulsion, and the oth

OBJECTIVE: To develop a new method to test the fracture strength of endodontically-treated root dentin.
METHOD: Bovine tooth roots were transversely cut into 2-mm thick sections and the root canals were enlarged with a taper of 0.06. An outer layer of resin composite was bonded to each section to make the root canal-to-outer radius ratio smaller than 1/3. The resulting discs were treated with irrigants at the inner surface and then fractured by inserting through the center a steel rod of the same taper attached to a universal test system. Fracture strength was calculated by using Lame's equat

BACKGROUND: Dens invaginatus is a dental developmental abnormality caused by an infolding of the enamel organ into the adjacent dental papilla before the calcification of the dental tissues. The clinical presentation of dens invaginatus varies according to its severity, from mild forms, in which we might find a deeper than normal cingulum pit, to severe cases, in which there is a pronounced infolding reaching the apical foramen. The very nature of the invagination favours the contamination from the oral environment to the pulp space and the onset of caries. Therefore, patients might present wi

A high inflammatory state, such as atherosclerosis, is a major underlying cause of coronary heart diseases (CHDs). Inflammatory mediators are known to lead to endothelial dysfunction and play a key role in initiation, progression, and rupture of atherothrombotic plaque. Chronic inflammatory dental infections such as periodontitis and lesions of endodontic origin or chronic apical periodontitis (CAP) may provide an environment conducive for such events. Atherosclerosis has shown to share a common spectrum of inflammatory markers with apical periodontitis. The possible correlation between CHD an
