Multicenter machine learning study for long-term prediction of acute kidney injury after complete mesocolic excision: integrating inflammatory biomarkers and transfusion-related risk factors.

BACKGROUND: Complete mesocolic excision (CME) is a technically complex and highly invasive surgical approach, and patients undergoing CME are consequently at elevated risk of postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI). Despite this vulnerability, reliable tools for individualized AKI risk prediction in this population remain unavailable. Moreover, the contributions of perioperative inflammatory responses and blood transfusion to AKI pathogenesis have not been comprehensively examined. Here, we sought to develop and validate a multicenter, machine learning-based model to predict AKI following CME

A Novel Feedback-Based Compensation Reduction With Upper Body Reconstruction for Upper-Limb Rehabilitation.

Compensatory movements frequently occur during upper-limb rehabilitation for patients with stroke, potentially impeding effective motor recovery. Vision-based systems offer practical solutions for monitoring such compensations, but their application has often been limited by tracking inaccuracies and inadequate integration of trunk and arm movements. To address this limitation, we developed a real-time compensation detection and feedback system for upper-limb rehabilitation robot, which integrates upper-body reconstruction based on sensor-fusion with a machine learning classifier. The system e

Using MediaPipe to track upper-limb reaching movements after stroke: a proof-of-principle study.

Emerging work supports the use of artificial intelligence-based markerless motion capture systems to complement standardized clinical measures when assessing post-stroke motor recovery. MediaPipe Pose Landmarker is an open-sourced, machine learning tool, requiring only one camera, which can be used to track upper limb movements and quantify kinematics. Here we aimed to test the use-case of MediaPipe Pose Landmarker in tracking upper limb movements after stroke in a 2-dimensional cartesian coordinate space. Participants (N = 7, > 2 months after stroke, upper extremity portion of the Fugl-Meyer

Early prediction of very and extreme preterm births using a one-class classification framework on electronic health records in UAE.

Very Preterm birth (vPTB) and extreme Preterm birth (xPTB) are the major concerns in maternal and child healthcare and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Machine learning methods have traditionally been used to predict preterm births (vPTB and xPTB). However, most medical datasets, including preterm births, are imbalanced in class distribution. Although data-balancing techniques can be employed, complications due to the limited sample size of the minority class are frequently encountered, leading to inconsistent results. This study adopted a novel approach by employing one-

Sequence signatures within the genome of SARS-CoV-2 can be used to predict host source.

We conducted an in silico analysis to better understand the potential factors impacting host adaptation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in white-tailed deer, humans, and mink due to the strong evidence of sustained transmission within these hosts. Classification models trained on single nucleotide and amino acid differences between samples effectively identified white-tailed deer-, human-, and mink-derived SARS-CoV-2. For example, the balanced accuracy score of Extremely Randomized Trees classifiers was 0.984 ± 0.006. Eighty-eight commonly identified predictive

Noncontrast MRI-based machine learning and radiomics signature can predict the severity of primary lower limb lymphedema.

OBJECTIVE: According to International Lymphology Society guidelines, the severity of lymphedema is determined by the difference in volume between the affected limb and the healthy side divided by the volume of the healthy side. However, this method of measuring volume is time consuming, laborious, and has certain errors in clinical applications. Therefore, this study aims to explore whether machine learning radiomics features based on noncontrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can predict the severity of primary lower limb lymphedema. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 119 patients with p
