240 patients with chronic otitis media (COM) were studied: 166 ears termed as non cholesteatomatous otitis media and 74 with cholesteatoma. Pleural effusion is an extremely rare complication of ruptured breast silicone implants. Rupture may be related to a recent trauma or occur spontaneously, making its diagnosis more difficult. Plant-thorn synovitis is an uncommon cause of arthritis and has not been reported in Asian countries. Zanthoxylum ailanthoides, an aromatic plant distributed in East Asia, is used as a spice in Taiwan. We reported a case of acute monoarthritis over the third metacarpo-phalangeal joint of the right hand after an injury by the thorn of the Zanthoxylum ailanthoides. A thorn foreign body of 2.7 mm in length was detected in the joint by high-resolution ultrasonography and led to a surgical synovectomy. The patient recovered completely after synovectomy. We report the case of solitary mastocytoma, which appeared under the identification bracelet on the left wrist of a 2-day-old newborn infant. Stroking the lesion elicited Darier's sign. Histopathologic examination of a punch biopsy specimen revealed a dense mast cell infiltrate of the dermis, which was confirmed by Giemsa and toluidine blue stains. We believe that this case represents and unusual reactive process.

Three groups of patients were reviewed 1, 2 and 3 years after extracapsular cataract extraction to assess the incidence of problems related to nylon corneal sutures and the need for suture removal. A large percentage of patients were found to have suture-related problems and required or had previously undergone suture removal. These findings are analysed. The potential risk of sight-threatening pathology associated with corneal sutures that are left in situ suggests that routine suture removal about 3 months after surgery is to be recommended.
