The effects of portal hypertension on gut function may be mediated by venous congestion and altered circulating levels of enteric hormones and neuropeptides. Digesta were collected from 5 pigs of 33 kg live weight fitted with re-entrant cannulas in the duodenum (within 20-30 cm of the pylorus) and terminal ileum. Main complication of different diseases is the paralytic ileus. The basis of all pathophysiological mechanisms is a decrease of the immune deficiency in the intestinal wall.
