BACKGROUND: Gynecomastia, a benign enlargement of the male breast, is typically treated with liposuction and glandular excision. Traditional techniques preserve a glandular pad beneath the nipple-areola complex (NAC) to prevent deformity but may cause undue nipple prominence. Our refined technique omits gland preservation and employs avulsion through a 1 cm periareolar incision, aiming to minimize bleeding and improve contouring without increasing complications.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate clinical outcomes of gynecomastia correction using a modified surgical protocol that avoids gland preservatio…

BACKGROUND: Gynecomastia (GM) is the increased fibroglandular tissue in the male breast by more than 2 cm, which is palpated under the nipple and areola. An ideal surgical approach aims to reduce the breast size, reach an acceptable breast shape, resect excessive glandular tissue, fatty tissue, and skin fatty tissue and excess skin, relocate the nipple-areolar complex, and avoid scars. Based on its importance, we aimed to compare outcomes of liposuction with and without periareolar incision in patients with GM.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a randomized clinical trial on patients referred f…

OBJECTIVE: We present a case of an unusual cause of prepubertal gynecomastia.
CASE PRESENTATION: Enlargement of breast tissue in males, or gynecomastia, is a rare condition in prepubescent boys. We describe an 8-year-old male who developed unilateral gynecomastia secondary to marked dietary soy consumption. While the majority of cases are idiopathic, soy products, particularly those consumed by our patient, can contain high levels of phytoestrogens, which have been documented in limited case studies to contribute to abnormal development of breast tissue in adolescent and adult males. To our k…

BACKGROUND: Gynecomastia (GM) is a benign proliferation of the glandular tissue of the breast in men. It is a frequent condition with a reported prevalence of 32-65%, depending on the age and the criteria used for definition. GM of infancy and puberty are common, benign conditions resolving spontaneously in the majority of cases. GM of adulthood is more prevalent among the elderly and proper investigation may reveal an underlying pathology in 45-50% of cases.
OBJECTIVES: The aim was to provide clinical practice guidelines for the evaluation and management of GM.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A lite…

Gynecomastia is an excessive development of the male breast. Surgery is the accepted standard method for treatment. In our department, 5 male patients ranging in age from 18 to 24 years who had grade I-IIA-IIB gynecomastia according to Simon's classification were operated on with a lighted retractor-assisted transaxillary approach. Dissection, excision, and hemostasis were performed under direct vision by using the lighted retractor. The glands and adjacent fat were removed en bloc. The axillary scar was barely visible. The patients were satisfied with the results. Gynecomastia correction with…
