INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary hypertension (PHTN) is a common complication in patients with chronic kidney disease. Delayed Graft Function (DGF), on the other hand; is an essential complication after kidney transplantation. These two complications increase morbidity and mortality in patients. The effect of PHTN on cardiovascular and graft blood supply, as well as the same mechanisms underlying PTHN and DGF; led us to investigate the relationship between them.

Stimulated by a severe organ shortage and an improving ability to successfully transplant poorly matched donor-recipient pairs, many transplant centers are now willing to accept emotionally related (but genetically unrelated) people (e.g., spouses) as kidney donors. To see whether this practice is encouraged, a survey was mailed to all 209 adult renal transplant centers in the United States. Of the 154 (74%) responding centers, 90% said they accept emotionally related donors and 60% said they actually encourage this practice. The use of an intercostal artery perforator (ICAP) flap has recently become popular in reconstructive surgery. BACKGROUND: Current evidence on steroid withdrawal following AB0-incompatible (AB0i) renal transplantation is low. We compared clinical outcomes of patients who agreed to late steroid withdrawal and patients who remained on steroid treatment.

OBJECTIVE: We retrospectively reviewed 104 consecutive patients who underwent orthotopic heart transplantation between November 1989 and February 2004.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From November 1989 to February 2004, the total number of heart transplantations were 1,340 cases at our institute. One hundred four (7.8%) of these 1,340 patients were pediatrics. Average age was 6.2 years, ranging from 4 months to 16 years. The cause of heart disease before transplantation was: idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in 74 patients (71%), and congenital heart disease (CHD) in 30 (29%).

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the applied anatomy of the proximal posterior interrosseous artery perforator flap (PIAP) and report the clinical results of repairing the soft tissue defects in hands.
METHODS: Between September 2007 and January 2011, 21 patients with 24 soft tissue defects in hands were repaired with the free proximal PIAP flap transplantation. The size of the flaps ranged from 2.0 cm x 1.5cm to 7cm x 5cm. The longest length of these flaps was 9 cm. 9 flaps were dissected with one additional superficial vein to anastomose with the superficial vein at the recipient sites.
