Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) in infants is caused by parathyroid chief cell hyperplasia. Patients present with symptoms of chronic hypercalcemia, such as failure to thrive, irritability, abdominal pain, and anorexia. Medical therapy is inadequate, often resulting in chronic hypercalcemia or death. Partial or total surgical removal of the parathyroid gland is the preferred treatment. We describe a case of a 7-month-old infant with PHPT secondary to hyperplasia successfully treated with a subtotal parathyroidectomy.

A clinical trial was conducted in a study group of 70 males diagnosed with symptomatic benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) (synonym of benign prostatic hyperplasia). They were administered Prostane, a herbal formulation, at a dose of two tablets a day for 1 year and monitored every 4 months during the study period. OBJECTIVE: CT scans of the chest in 32 patients undergoing immunotherapy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma were evaluated to determine the incidence and significance of axillary lymph node enlargement during therapy.
CONCLUSION: Axillary node enlargement in cancer patients undergoing immunotherapy should not be assumed to be metastatic in origin but may result from the stimulation of the immune system during treatment.

We report herein an unusual case of a 35-year-old Japanese man who underwent thoracotomy for a mass in the mediastinum which was found to be a well circumscribed localized tumor within the thymus. Focal thymic hyperplasia in adults is extremely rare and the clinicopathological features of this case were particularly interesting and posed great difficulty in establishing a diagnosis.

We treated a patient with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia in whom the diagnosis was made by chorioretinal biopsy. Histopathologic examination and culture of the biopsied specimen allowed us to rule out a neoplastic or infectious process.
