Thirty-five infants were treated surgically for neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis during the past eight years. Twenty-five of these, managed by resection and exteriorization, later underwent reconstitution of the intestinal tract. Anastomotic leak after colorectal resection for cancer is a challenging clinical problem. The postoperative quality of life in these situations is significantly impaired. During the period from 1979 to 1986, seven patients have been treated for extensive aganglionosis involving the colon and distal ileum (5 to 40 cm) employing the colonic patch graft (CPG) procedure.
