The H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b avian influenza virus outbreak in poultry and dairy cattle is a potential pandemic threat for humans. A safe and effective H5N1 influenza vaccine will be needed if the virus acquires the capacity for efficient human-to-human transmission and may also be useful as a veterinary vaccine. In this study, we demonstrate robust vaccine protection in a lethal model of H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b influenza infection in cynomolgus macaques. We vaccinated 24 cynomolgus macaques with mRNA or rhesus adenovirus serotype 52 (RhAd52) vaccines expressing the hemagglutinin (HA) from H5N1 clade 2

Early studies on vaccination of children with oncological diseases were only dedicated to the assessment of safety and immunogenicity of the drug. Mechanisms of the post-vaccination immune response were not investigated. This study involved 41 patients aged 7-15 years who were treated for solid tumors two or more years ago. Of these, 26 were vaccinated against diphtheria and tetanus with ADS-m toxoid. Fifteen children (i.e., controls) were not vaccinated. The vaccination tolerability and clinical characteristics of the underlying disease remission ware assessed. Lymphocyte subpopulations were

Hepatitis A is a vaccine-preventable infection caused by the HA virus (HAV) with transitional to intermediate endemicity in China. An inactivated vaccine first licensed in China in 2010 (Avaxim® 80U Pediatric) is indicated for primary and booster vaccination in children from 12 months to 15 years of age. This Phase IV, open-label, single-arm trial supported licensure in pediatric age groups in China. A total of 355 healthy infants and toddlers (< 2 years of age), children (2 to 11 years of age), and adolescents (≥ 12 years of age) were enrolled to receive two doses of intramuscular HA vaccine,

The Viral Hepatitis Prevention Board (VHPB) organized an international meeting in Milan in November 2011 on the question of whether completing a course of hepatitis B vaccination confers lifelong protection against hepatitis B virus infection and its complications. Presentations covered vaccine efficacy including factors influencing long-term protection; breakthrough infections; the immunological effect of natural boosting; the effectiveness of universal hepatitis B vaccination in different countries, and issues relating to national, regional and global policies on booster vaccination. Finding

The paper presents data on vaccine prophylaxis in Russia. A sophisticated analysis of the data available in the literature on approaches to vaccination against tuberculosis in different countries of the world is provided. The results of the studies made by Russian investigators to develop different regimes of BCG re-administrations an their frequencies are given. The fact that it is necessary to change a tuberculosis prophylaxis calendar under the present conditions, by keeping in mind the age of a child and the epidemic situation in the country's region, has been established. A particular sec

Hepatitis A is one of the most common vaccine-preventable infectious diseases in the world. Effective vaccines against hepatitis A have been available since 1992, and they provide long-term immunity against the infection. However, there is no worldwide consensus on how long protection will last or whether there will be a need for hepatitis A virus (HAV) booster vaccinations in the future. In most countries, booster-vaccination policy is guided by manufacturers' recommendations, national authorities, or both. In June, 2002, a panel of international experts met to review the long-term immunogeni

Six mandrills were immunized with 150 Loa loa infective stage larvae (L3) irradiated with 40 Krad, and challenged with 100 L3, 60 days after initial vaccination. The parasitological outcome of this immunization was compared to results from six mandrills infected with normal L3. No clear association was seen between vaccination and microfilaremia until day 245 when a significant drop in the level of microfilaria occurred in vaccinated compared to infected animals (5 vs 10 mf/ml; p = 0.012). A one-year follow-up of the humoral immune response showed a strong adult, microfilariae (Mf) and L3 spec

BACKGROUND: In hepatitis A virus (HAV)-seronegative infants, inactivated hepatitis A vaccines are highly immunogenic. On the contrary, in infants who are HAV-seropositive before vaccination, the interfering effect of passively-transferred maternal anti-HAV antibodies leads to lower post-primary immunization anti-HAV levels, as compared to those achieved by seronegative infants. One possible way to overcome this drawback is to delay hepatitis A vaccination later during the first year of life. The objective of the study was to document the immunogenicity of an inactivated hepatitis A vaccine in

The development of an effective vaccine for Lyme disease represents a major advance in the control of the most prevalent vector-borne disease in the United States. It has a definite place in the total approach to control of this disease. Its use should be restricted to individuals who are at moderate to high risk of exposure to infected vector ticks. Vaccinated individuals should not be complacent about other personal protection measures, because the vaccine is not uniformly effective and protective antibody levels decay rapidly. Booster doses will be necessary, but the intervals have not yet

To evaluate the priming effect, immunogenicity and safety of an Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) tetanus toxoid conjugate (PRP-T) and diphtheria-tetanus-acellular (two component) pertussis (DTaP) combination vaccine, a randomized, comparative study was conducted in two centers, one in Belgium and one in Turkey. A total of 410 healthy infants, 160 in Belgium and 250 in Turkey, randomly received DTaP and PRP-T vaccines in one of three fashions. One group (N = 138) received DTaP and PRP-T vaccines reconstituted immediately prior to injection at 3, 4 and 5 months of age, and are referred to as

Tuberculin reactivity decreases with age despite epidemiologic evidence that the elderly are more likely to have been infected. Whether this phenomenon is due to lack of antigenic stimulus or host inability to mount a delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) response is unclear. In order to determine if the DTH response to tetanus toxoid in an exposed population is a useful tool to understand the phenomenon of lack of tuberculin reactivity in the remotely exposed elderly, a trial of skin testing was undertaken. Seventy-seven residents of a Veterans Affairs domiciliary were skin-tested using solutio

One of the current goals in vaccine development is the noninvasive administration of protective antigens via mucosal surfaces. In this context, the gut-associated lymphoid tissues have already been extensively explored. Vaccination via the nasal route has only recently been the focus of intensive investigation, and no live vector specifically designed for the respiratory mucosa is yet available. In this study we show that intranasal administration of the recombinant Bordetella pertussis BPGR60, producing the Schistosoma mansoni 28-kDa glutathione S-transferase (Sm28GST) protective antigen fuse

INTRODUCTION: Members of an integrated pharmacy team (pharmacists and pharmacy technicians) have roles that have been identified in the literature as part of the multi-disciplinary cystic fibrosis (CF) care team. One role that has not specifically addressed is the administration of routine and recommended immunizations to people with CF (PwCF). According to care guidelines, PwCF of all ages should be provided all age-appropriate and recommended immunizations. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can administer immunizations per state laws. The Primary Children's CF Center decided to implement
