During lung transplantation, a number of factors may cause endothelial injury to the donor organ, including ischemia, inadequate preservation, cardiopulmonary bypass, high potassium concentrations, and reperfusion. In this study, protein accumulation index (PAI) was used to assess pulmonary endothelial permeability (PEP) in ten patients immediately after lung transplantation. Using first-principles calculations we have studied the electronic and structural properties of cation vacancies and their complexes with hydrogen impurities in SnO(2), In(2)O(3) and β-Ga(2)O(3). We find that cation vacancies have high formation energies in SnO(2) and In(2)O(3) even in the most favorable conditions. Their formation energies are significantly lower in β-Ga(2)O(3). Cation vacancies, which are compensating acceptors, strongly interact with H impurities resulting in complexes with low formation energies and large binding energies, stable up to temperatures over 730 °C. The precursor compound plays a crucial role in the development of low-cost chalcogenide thin-film solar cells via a solution approach. In this work, we report on the synthesis of a new complex [Cu((NH2)2CS)3]2SO4·H2O through a simple redox reaction between inexpensive Cu(CH3COO)2·H2O and thiourea (TU) in water. Using this complex as a copper source, a stable dimethylformamide solution was made and copper indium sulfoselenide CuIn(S,Se)2 thin film solar cells with a high efficiency of 12.2% have been demonstrated.

We study the photoreduction of adsorbed copper ions onto Au nanoparticles, on an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode in an aqueous electrochemical cell, as a function of applied voltage and laser intensity. The photocurrent is a nonlinear function of laser intensity and increases sharply with cathodic voltage in the underpotential deposition region. Three cases of Charcot spinal arthropathy in long-standing (greater than 20 years) paraplegia are presented. In this group of patients with other known chronic infections, the differential diagnosis strongly favored osteomyelitis. Scanning techniques including technetium 99, indium 111, and computed tomography (CT) were used in the extensive work-up and were helpful, although not diagnostic. Thirty-four children with presumptive acute osteomyelitis or septic arthritis underwent early gallium-67 citrate scintigraphy and have been retrospectively reviewed. 2-cyclo-octylamino-5-nitropyridine (COANP) single crystals were grown between transparent plates coated with indium tin oxide. The Pockels effect of the crystals was analyzed by an ac modulation method. The figure of merit of electro-optic phase retardation of the COANP crystals is estimated to be 4.2x10(-12) m/V . The crystals were protected by the plates, and the figure of merit of the phase retardation of the crystals did not decrease with time. We believe that the crystal-growth method described is applicable to other organic compounds whose crystal growth from a melt is feasible.

Indium-111-labeled donor leukocytes were used for the detection of foci of suppuration in eight severely leukopenic patients with marrow suppression, either idiopathic or associated with chemotherapeutic regimens for leukemia. Five hundred patients with cysticercosis of the nervous system were evaluated by scanning that used anti-Cysticercus antibodies labeled with indium 113.
