BACKGROUND: Artificial pancreas systems aim to reduce the burden of type 1 diabetes by automating insulin dosing. These systems link a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and insulin pump with a control algorithm, but require users to announce meals, without which the system can only react to the rise in blood glucose.

We reported five cases of cerebral and/or cerebellar embolism after insertion of a heparin-coated catheter from the left thoracoacromial artery for multiple liver metastases. They were one patient with multiple liver metastases from the angiosarcoma of the scalp, and 4 others with gastrointestinal cancer liver metastases. Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) provides all nutrition intravenously. Although TPN therapy has grown enormously, it causes significant complications, including gut and hepatic dysfunction. We studied the hemodynamic effects of isosorbide dinitrate administered by continuous i.v. infusion to 22 patients with chronic refractory pump failure and 18 with pump failure due to acute myocardial infarction.
