[The proximal radioulnar joint in consideration of the distal radioulnar joint].

The movement of the forearm follows a complex interplay of three main components: the proximal and distal radioulnar joint and the interosseous membrane. Injuries to one or even all components have a huge impact on the integrity of this system. The Essex-Lopresti lesion presented a high challenge in clinical diagnostics as well as therapy. Reconstructions of the length and stability are essential for a satisfactory postoperative outcome. If a reconstruction of the radial head by osteosynthesis is not possible, a radial head prosthesis should be implanted in the case of longitudinal instability

Sternoclavicular Joint Graft in Temporomandibular Joint Reconstruction for Ankylosis.

BACKGROUND: Temporomandibular joint ankylosis is one of the most distressing clinical condition resulting in loss of jaw function and impairment of growth. Ankylosis is a greek word meaning "Stiff Joint". It is observed that in humans the Sternoclavicular joint and Temporomandibular joint are similar morphologically and histologically as they are the only two synovial joints covered with fibrocartilage. This similarity of the joints have encouraged the surgeons to use SCG as an alternative to costochondral grafts. AIMS: The purpose of this article was to evaluate the feasibility of using ster…

Joint-sparing Corrections in Malunited Lisfranc Joint Injuries.

Lisfranc fracture-dislocations are very serious and potentially disabling injuries. Unfortunately, they are often misdiagnosed. Multiplanar midfoot deformities that result from these fracture-dislocations are precursors of joint degeneration and significant functional disabilities. Anatomic reduction with different types of internal fixation is an efficient method to reconstruct midfoot alignment and stability. Joint-preserving reconstruction techniques emerge as a viable alternative to corrective fusion as they achieve stable joint realignment with preserved motion.

Joint-Sparing Corrections of Malunited Chopart Joint Injuries.

Treatment of malunion and nonunion at the Chopart joint aims at axial realignment of the midfoot to the hindfoot and restoration of the normal relationship of the lateral and medial columns of the foot. In carefully selected patients with intact cartilage, joint-preserving osteotomies are feasible at all 4 bony components of the Chopart joint to restore near-normal function. Priority should be given to the anatomic reconstruction of the talonavicular joint because it is essential for global foot function. Patients must be counseled about the risk of progressive arthritis or osteonecrosis neces

Joint Hypermobility and Joint Range of Motion in Young Dancers.

BACKGROUND: Joint range of motion (ROM) refers to the extent of movement of the joint, recorded using standard goniometers. Joint hypermobility (JHM) is a condition in which most of the synovial joints move beyond the "normal" limits. Joint hypermobility is recognized as a feature of heritable disorders of the connective tissue and can be identified mostly by the Beighton scale. Data on the possible relationship between JHM and joint ROM are lacking in the literature. The main objective of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between JHM and joint ROM in the different lower-extre…

Temporomandibular joint structural derangement and general joint hypermobility.

AIM: To explore the relationship between general joint hypermobility (GJH) and displacement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc as evi … a stiffer trunk than controls, but this may not be of clinical relevance. The mobilities of paired joints were significantly correlated; however, the mobilities of different anatomical joints seemed to be independent. CONCLUSION: Based on the Beighton score, GJH does not seem to be a reliable indicator of the presence of TMJ ID.

Loose joint bodies of the temporomandibular joint: a case report.

Osteochondral loose bodies are an uncommon finding in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), but occur relatively frequently in large joints such as the knee, elbow, hip, wrist, and ankle. Loose joint bodies can be divided in three groups: 1) synovial chondromatosis; 2) osteochondral fracture fragments and; 3) cases of degenerative arthritis or avascular necrosis. The most common clinical features of loose joint bodies are pain, swelling, joint noise and impaired joint movements. A case of loose joint bodies of the temporomandibular joint is presented. The pantomograph and lateral cephalograph rev…

The joint capsule and joint laxity in dogs with hip dysplasia.

Present knowledge of the complexity of joint diseases makes it difficult to investigate the causes and early pathogenesis of canine hip dysplasia. Clinical signs of canine hip dysplasia including joint laxity may be a result of primary or secondary alterations of the joint. We already know that joint laxity is related to effusive synovitis (ie, accumulation of synovial fluid) and to other primary collagenous diseases. Canine hip dysplasia may be a third collagenous disease associated with joint laxity. This paper summarizes some of the studies that investigated the relationship between joint l

[Treatment of acromioclavicular joint dislocation with the Rahmanzadeh joint plate].

Type Tossy III dislocations of the acromioclavicular joint (AC) are treated surgically in German-speaking countries. There is considerable rotation and tilting in the AC joint with elevation or abduction of the shoulder joint over 90 degrees. Thus, in the majority of countless surgical procedures, the abduction and elevation are restricted or immobilized for long periods in abduction strapping or other types of movement restriction. The AC joint plate developed by Prof. Rahmanzadeh enables early functional, complete physical therapy since the plate permits rotation and tilting. Over a period o

Temporomandibular joint space in children without joint disease.

Bilateral assessment of the temporomandibular joint space in children without joint disease is reported. Twenty-eight children were examined with conventional radiography and 23 with tomography. High prevalence of asymmetric joint spaces with both techniques indicated that great care should be taken when using narrowing or widening of the joint space as a diagnostic criterion in children with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Other signs, such as restricted translation of the mandibular head, and clinical symptoms should be evaluated.

Cranial Suture Joints in Sheep Ovis aries (Najdi breed): Anatomical and Radiographic Findings.

This study aimed to describe the anatomical and morphological features of cranial suture joints in sixteen sheep skulls and to compare these findings with those reported in other domesticated species. The study of cranial sutures extends beyond morphology to elucidate mechanisms of skull growth, as suture patterns function as regulatory units in cranial development, highlighting the important roles in comparative and evolutionary studies, age estimation, and fracture identification, and serving as reference points in veterinary surgery and radiography. A detailed anatomical examination of shee…

Interconnections Among Midfoot Joints and Accuracy of Ultrasound-Guided Injection: A Cadaveric Study.

BACKGROUND: Midfoot arthritis can cause substantial pain and disability. Intraarticular corticosteroid injections under fluoroscopic guidance into multiple midfoot joints are a common nonoperative treatment. Although recent radiologic studies have suggested interconnections among midfoot joints, comprehensive anatomic investigations remain limited. This cadaveric study aimed to (1) evaluate the accuracy of ultrasound-guided injection into the naviculocuneiform (NC) joint and (2) assess the dye distribution pattern to elucidate potential interconnections among midfoot joints. METHODS: Fourteen…

Joints with angle dependent damping can help to reduce impact forces in robots.

This paper investigates how a new angle-dependent damper design can help a robot to reduce collision forces. We designed a fluid-viscous angle-dependent damper by smoothly changing the clearance between the stationary and moving parts. Analytical and numerical simulation-based predictions were experimentally tested. Analytical modelling shows that angle-dependent damping has a [Formula: see text] reduction in peak forces when compared to constant damping. Numerical simulations show that variable-gap dampers can change damping by [Formula: see text] during a [Formula: see text] gap change. The

Effect of foreign object damage on fatigue performance of Inconel 718 welded joints.

Foreign object damage (FOD) in Inconel 718 base metal(BM) and welded joints(WJ) was investigated using pendulum impact testing. The effects of impact energy on damage morphology, microstructure, and fatigue performance were analyzed. The results show that: 1. The fatigue life and hardness inherent in WJ are higher than those of the BM, primarily due to grain refinement and the presence of precipitated phases at grain boundaries; 2. Macroscopically, the damage notches exhibit a V-shape. Their dimensions increase with the rise in impact energy. However, under the same energy level, the damage di…

Experimental study on shear behavior of Polyurethane/water glass-filled planar rock joints.

Rock joints are widespread in nature and have become a major obstacle to the safe development of underground space. Grouting reinforcement is widely adopted to reduce engineering disasters induced by joint sliding instability. In this study, direct shear tests of Polyurethane/water glass (PU/WG)-filled planar rock joints under constant normal stress conditions were carried out to investigate the effects of normal stress σn, PU/WG layer and curing time T on the shear behavior, shear strength and surface damage of filled joints. The results show that PU/WG significantly enhances the peak shear s…

Review on Damage and Failure in Adhesively Bonded Composite Joints: A Microscopic Aspect.

Adhesively bonded joints offer numerous advantages for industrial applications. However, because damage and failure in adhesively bonded joints occur within thin adhesive layers between stiff adherends, experimental characterization and numerical simulation that account for microscopic phenomena are particularly challenging. For adhesively bonded composite joints, in particular, the interaction between adhesive and adherend damage must also be carefully considered. This review article mainly discusses and reviews the microscopic aspects of damage and failure in adhesively bonded composite join…

Modeling and Analysis of Torsional Stiffness in Rehabilitation Robot Joints Using Fractal Theory.

The torsional stiffness of rehabilitation robot joints is a critical performance determinant, significantly affecting motion accuracy, stability, and user comfort. This paper introduces an innovative traction drive mechanism that transmits torque through friction forces, overcoming mechanical impact issues of traditional gear transmissions, though accurately modeling surface roughness effects remains challenging. Based on fractal theory, this study presents a comprehensive torsional stiffness analysis for advanced traction drive joints. Surface topography is characterized using the Weierstrass…
