BACKGROUND: A Class II division 2 malocclusion is characterised by upper front teeth that are retroclined (tilted toward the roof of the mouth) and an increased overbite (deep overbite), which can cause oral problems and may affect appearance. This problem can be corrected by the use of special dental braces (functional appliances) that move the upper front teeth forward and change the growth of the upper or lower jaws, or both. Most types of functional appliances are removable and this treatment approach does not usually require extraction of any permanent teeth. Additional treatment with fixe

The case report is of a 30 year old male, who complained of a slowly expanding swelling in the maxilla in the left premolar region. The swelling was clinically and radiographically diagnosed as Central Giant Cell Granuloma. The patient also had Angles Class 2 Division 2 Malocclusion in which repeated micro trauma may have possibly contributed to the formation of the tumor. The tumor was surgically removed under general anesthesia followed by local injections of corticosteroids.

Pathologic tooth migration (PTM) is a common complication of moderate to severe periodontitis and is often the motivation for patients to seek periodontal therapy. In this review of the literature, available information concerning prevalence, etiology, treatment, and prevention of pathologic tooth migration is summarized. Prevalence of PTM among periodontal patients has been reported to range from 30.03% to 55.8%. A survey of the literature regarding chief complaints of periodontal patients support these high prevalence findings. The etiology of PTM appears to be multifactorial. Periodontal bo

Tooth transposition is a rare dental anomaly which is characterized by an interchange in the position of two adjacent permanent teeth on the same side of the dental arch. Tooth transpositions occur less often in the mandibular arch than in the maxilla and with less variety. Early diagnosis and detection of a developing transposition is based on both clinical and radiographic examination. When detected early, interceptive treatment may resolve the developing problem. This paper discusses a patient who presented with a mandibular permanent lateral incisor-canine transposition.

The posterior airway space (PAS) is delimited by hard and soft tissues with anomalies that may produce alterations in volume. In patients with severe hypoplasia of the middle and lower third of the face, a decrease in volume of the PAS is present, producing a polysyndromic condition that ranges from snoring to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). The aim of this report is to define PAS variations via a cephalometric study in patients affected by class II occlusion and treated with orthognathic surgery. The authors studied 44 patients affected by class II occlusion who underwent surgery to

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine cephalometric factors that help predict favorable soft-tissue profile outcomes following treatment with the Class II Twin-block appliance.
METHODS: Pre- and post-treatment lateral cephalograms of 45 patients treated with the Class II Twin-block appliance were retrospectively analyzed. Profile silhouettes were drawn from the cephalograms and evaluated by three orthodontists in order to determine the extent of improvement. Samples were divided into a favorable group (upper 30% of visual analogue scale [VAS] scores, n = 14) and an unfavorable gro

Treatment of severe hyperdivergent skeletal class II protrusion in adult patients has always been a significant clinical challenge for orthodontists. For the optimal enhancement of facial esthetics, orthodontic-orthognathic treatment may represent the most appropriate treatment option. However, this case report presents the successful camouflage orthodontic treatment of a 25-year-old female patient who had a skeletal Class II malocclusion with a convex profile, retrusive mandible, a slight high plane angle of the mandible, individual anterior crossbite, posterior scissor bite, and lip muscle h

This study compared the skeletal and dental characteristics of Class II Division 1 white Americans and Mexicans. It was designed specifically to the evaluate ethnic, age, and sex differences of 101 whites and 107 Mexican mestizos, with approximately equal numbers in each subgroup. Three-way analyses of variance were used to simultaneously evaluate the effects of age, sex, ethnicity, and their interactions. Although Mexicans and whites in the United States had similar maxillomandibular relationships, Mexicans showed greater protrusion of the jaws and teeth. Mexican subjects with Class II malocc

INTRODUCTION: Class II subdivision malocclusions are common and challenging to treat due to their asymmetry. The range of orthodontic correction devices is expanding toward systems that may offer more comfort for patients but often lack scientific evidence supporting their efficacy. The objective of this study was to evaluate, for the first time, the effect of a Class II correction device, the Carriere Motion (CM) combined with palatal canine bite turbos, in adult patients with Class II subdivision malocclusion.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective study included all adult patients with C
