An intraosseous leiomyoma arising within the mandible was diagnosed in a 24-year-old woman. Clinically, a nodular swelling of the lower border of the mandible was noted. Radiographically, a unilocular ellipsoid radiolucency, loss of the lower border of the mandible, and tooth resorption were observed. The mitotic count was 0.4 per 10 high-power fields, which supported the benign nature of the tumor. The clinical and histologic parameters for distinguishing between benign and malignant smooth muscle neoplasms are discussed.

An unusual case of odontogenic adenomatoid tumor in the mandible of an 11-year-old Ethiopian girl is described. This case is unique because of the extensive size of the tumor (12 cm), long duration, the number of associated impacted teeth (seven), the pronounced areas of radiopaqueness, the multiocular configuration, the anomalous tooth form, and the fact that deciduous teeth were involved.

Over the past twenty years the titanium mesh combined with autologous iliac crest spongiosa and hydroxylapatite has performed well in the restoration of mandibular discontinuity defects in 79 patients. In 14 irradiated patients with a transplant bed of inferior quality, however, complications and failures occurred more often than in the 65 not irradiated patients. The results of our investigation clearly show, that the success of mandibular reconstruction mainly depends on a well vascularized transplant bed.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the application of computer aided design-computer aided manufacture (CAD-CAM) technique in the reconstruction of mandible defect with individual titanium prosthesis.
METHODS: Six patients with large mandibular ramus and angle tumor were spiral CT scanned preoperatively, and the CAD-CAM was used to design and make individual titanium prosthesis for reconstructing the mandibular defects after resection of the tumor. The prosthesis were assembled during operation. Postoperative follow-up period was 9 - 38 months.

Malignant mesothelioma is an aggressive neoplasm originating from the serosal surfaces of the pleural or peritoneal cavity. The following article describes two cases of metastatic mesothelioma to the oral cavity; one involves the tongue, the other involves the mandible. The diagnostic criteria for differentiating metastatic mesothelioma from adenocarcinoma are also discussed.

A case of recurrent ameloblastoma developing in an autogenous iliac bone graft 20 years after radical resection of primary mandibular ameloblastoma is presented. This case showed extensive bony resorption extending throughout the auto-grafted bone. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) metastasizing to the mandible and subsequently spreading to oropharynx in a 62 year old man is reported. The patient presented with solitary mandibular lesion with hematuria, which on further investigation was diagnosed to be RCC with no other systemic involvement. Clinical manifestation of the mandibular metastasis from RCC is rarely seen. A case is reported and literature regarding extracranial head and neck metastasis by RCC is reviewed.
