The recent explosion of hereditary breast cancer genetic research has strengthened our understanding of genetic influences on health and disease. These scientific advances have significant implications for clinical oncology nurses and advanced practice nurses. In this paper, the Human Response to Illness Model (Mitchell, Gallucci, & Fought, 1991) is utilized to gain a comprehensive understanding of breast cancer related to the human response of genetic mutations. Accordingly, the research literature related to the physiological, pathophysiological, behavioural, and experiential perspectives of

BACKGROUND: Inclusive leadership is an important leadership approach that fosters supportive, collaborative, and psychologically safe work environments. Although previous research has demonstrated positive associations between inclusive leadership and nurses' job satisfaction, limited evidence has examined the mechanisms underlying this relationship, particularly the mediating role of team cohesion in multicultural nursing workforces.
AIM: To examine the mediating role of team cohesion in the relationship between inclusive leadership and nurses' job satisfaction among registered nurses workin

INTRODUCTION: A knowledge gap exists regarding how physical, psychosocial, and organizational stressors interact dynamically over time to drive nurse dissatisfaction. This qualitative study explores the lived experiences of hospital inpatient elderly care nurses navigating their institutional environment. The aim was to uncover the specific operational dynamics of job dissatisfaction and provide an empirical model of these cyclic, self-reinforcing patterns.
METHODS: A qualitative research design was applied for the study. The purposive sample consisted of 21 nurses; the sample size was determ

OBJECTIVES: Pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) nurses spend the most time with patients and families during a critical illness. However, nurses, families, and other clinicians conceptualize suffering differently, leaving some types of suffering when a child is nearing the end-of-life (EOL) unaddressed. PICU nurses are thus well-positioned but underequipped to address suffering during EOL. We aimed to 1) characterize distinctive features that indicate the presence and/or absence of suffering; and 2) identify nursing care responses that help attend to EOL suffering.
METHODS: Using qualitative

Kenyan neonatal nurses are asked to do the impossible: to bridge the gap between international standards of nursing and the circumstances they face each day. They work long hours with little supervision in ill-designed wards, staffed by far too few nurses given the pressing need. Despite these conditions, a single neonatal nurse can be tasked with looking after forty sick babies for whom very close care is a necessity. Our 18-month ethnography explores this uniquely stressful environment in order to understand how nurses operate under such pressures and what techniques they use to organise wor

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a complex genetic hemoglobinopathy which is associated with a severely shortened lifespan; the median age of death remains in the low 50's. Individuals living with SCD have complex medical, psychological, and social needs. The complexity results in difficulty navigating the healthcare system, and often being unaware of existing resources that may assist with addressing unmet social needs. Navigating fragmented healthcare and other support systems, as well as ensuring access to care, is challenging for persons with complex chronic diseases such a

As neonatal intensive care nurses face downsizing and/or cross-training, new opportunities are emerging for advanced practice nurses in follow-up care of neonatal intensive care unit graduates, case management, quality improvement, and community hospital care. This article identifies current issues in neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) education as the model has shifted from hospital-based, certificate programs to graduate degree programs offered by colleges/universities of nursing. Opportunities for increasing NNP role flexibility and recommendations for bridging the transition to a 21st centu

PURPOSE: Current palliative care (PC) often relies on specialist consultation. This study focuses on a newer model: integrative PC (primary PC), delivered by regular staff (specifically hematology nurses) who are trained to deliver basic palliative interventions alongside routine clinical care. While established in solid tumors, PC integration lags in hematology. The aim is to describe the hematology nurses' perceptions and experiences providing this integrative PC model to patients with Multiple Myeloma (MM).
METHODS: A qualitative exploratory study was conducted using a phenomenological-her
