Anti-bullying interventions at school: aspects of programme adaptation and critical issues for further programme development.

Recently, a growing interest in problems at school of peer aggression and victimization was observed. As a result, intervention strategies appropriate for this kind of problem were required. The Norwegian anti-bullying intervention that was developed and evaluated by Olweus (1992) in the region of Bergen was considered to be a good model for other countries to implement interventions against peer aggression within the school environment. It was therefore adapted to the educational settings of other countries. This paper aims to discuss the adaptation processes of the Bergen anti-bullying progr

Air flight disaster, posttraumatic stress, and postventive rescue and response: the aftermath of the San Diego PSA 182 plane crash recovery operation, 20 years on.

San Diego in 1978 was the scene of one of the USA's most tragic and traumatic air flight disasters, when an inbound Boeing 727 collided with a small private Cessna 172. The collision occurred in the vicinity of North Park, a suburb of San Diego. All aircraft occupants were killed or injured and many residents were injured. The wreckage was mainly concentrated in an area about the size of a city block, in a temperature of 100 degrees F or more. The whole experience was unlike anything any of the professionals involved had been prepared for, and beyond anything the civilians involved could have

Promising strategies for preventing perinatal HIV transmission: model programs from three states.

OBJECTIVES: This paper describes and compares three innovative methods for preventing perinatal HIV transmission. Each of these strategies has been developed based on an in-depth assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of existing prevention approaches, and the needs of the populations they serve. METHODS: Florida expanded an existing outreach program to include women in jails in several high-prevalence counties. Incarcerated women were offered testing for pregnancy and HIV and linked to medical and supportive services. One Connecticut hospital sought to increase prenatal HIV testing rates

Industrial-organizational science that matters: Social impact and policy implications in the Journal of Applied Psychology.

This introductory article to the special issue "Social Impact Research" examines the extent to which research published in the Journal of Applied Psychology has addressed pressing social issues related to work and employment. Using BERTopic modeling on 5,865 empirical articles published from the journal's inception in 1917 through June 2024, we identified 99 topics organized into 25 higher order themes, five of which directly reflect social impact: workplace stress, health, and well-being; workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion; organizational justice, ethics, and legal issues; work and em

Hierarchical and lateralized functional network organization of the tripartite insula: A meta-analytic connectivity modeling study.

Although the insula exhibits pronounced structural and functional heterogeneity, the large-scale organizational principles and internal coordination among its subregions remain incompletely understood. Using task-based functional neuroimaging data from healthy individuals archived in the BrainMap database, we applied meta-analytic connectivity modeling (MACM) to characterize the whole-brain coactivation networks associated with the three functionally defined insular subregions: the dorsal anterior insula (dAI), ventral anterior insula (vAI), and posterior insula (PI). By integrating functional

A scoping review on community health care centers: Evidence in support of Italian policymakers to redesign the Italian primary care system.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the central role of primary health care in managing patients with complex and chronic health conditions. In response, the Italian government launched a reform of the National Health Service, introducing Community Health Care Centers ("Case della Comunità") as a key pillar of the new primary care model. Evidence is needed on which organizational features of such centers best support integrated, high-quality care. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review synthesized international evidence on community health care centers characterized by integrated care and c

Transformation of an interprofessional learning strategy through organizational change principles and patient partnership.

Interprofessional learning (IPL) is required for health profession students to develop appropriate collaborative competencies. In 2024, in response to accreditation recommendations and evolving best practices, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), University of Medicine & Health Sciences undertook a comprehensive redesign of its original IPL strategy. Guided by Kotter's eight-step model for organizational change, an interprofessional leadership team of academic staff, student, and patient partners reviewed and updated their approach to IPL. This new strategy integrates formal, infor

Activational and organizational actions of gonadal hormones on the sexual dimorphism of the α6-subunit containing GABAA receptor in Wistar rats with neuropathic pain.

Sex differences in pain perception and response to analgesics are well documented, yet the underlying causes remain poorly understood. Here we investigate the sexual dimorphism in the function of α6GABAA receptors in neuropathic pain, focusing on activational and organizational actions of gonadal hormones. Using the nerve ligation model in rats, we found that the positive allosteric modulator, PZ-ll-029 (30 nmol, it), produced a robust antiallodynic effect in females but not in males. Ovariectomy abolished this effect, while a single dose of estradiol (20 μg/kg sc, -24 h), that returned to phy

Complexity of the pediatric trauma care process: Implications for multi-level awareness.

Trauma is the leading cause of disability and death in children and young adults in the US. While much is known about the medical aspects of inpatient pediatric trauma care, not much is known about the processes and roles involved in in-hospital care. Using human factors engineering (HFE) methods, we combine interview, archival document and trauma registry data to describe how intra-hospital care transitions affect process and team complexity. Specifically, we identify the 53 roles directly involved in patient care in each hospital unit and describe the 3324 total transitions between hospital

Age and factors associated with access and time to post-operative adjuvant chemotherapy in colon cancer: a French epidemiological study.

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown the negative prognostic impact of increased time between colectomy and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) in colon cancer (CC). Our aim was to investigate the role of age and non-organizational factors on access and time to AC. METHODS: All adult patients undergoing surgery for stage II or III CC in the "Région Centre-Val de Loire" in 2013, were selected. Time to AC and socio-demographic factors were collected. Logistic regression modeling was used to identify factors associated with access to AC, and a multivariate analysis performed to identify factors a

Complex contexts and relationships affect clinical decisions in group therapy.

Clinical errors tend to be underreported even though examining them can provide important training and professional development opportunities. The group therapy context may be prone to clinician errors because of the added complexity within which therapists work and patients receive treatment. We discuss clinical errors that occurred within a group therapy in which a patient for whom group was not appropriate was admitted to the treatment and then was not removed by the clinicians. This was countertherapeutic for both patient and group. Two clinicians were involved: a clinical supervisor who i

Self-Reported Acute and Chronic Voice Disorders in Teachers.

UNLABELLED: The present study aimed to identify factors associated with self-reported acute and chronic voice disorders among municipal elementary school teachers in the city of Montes Claros, in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. METHODS: The dependent variable, self-reported dysphonia, was determined via a single question, "Have you noticed changes in your voice quality?" and if so, a follow-up question queried the duration of this change, acute or chronic. The independent variables were dichotomized and divided into five categories: sociodemographic and economic data; lifestyle; organizati

Justice as a dependent variable: subordinate charisma as a predictor of interpersonal and informational justice perceptions.

Research in the organizational justice literature has shown that interpersonal and informational justice are significant predictors of subordinate attitudes and behaviors. However, scholars have neglected to explore whether certain subordinate characteristics might be associated with managers' adherence to interpersonal and informational justice rules. The current authors' study tested a model, inspired by approach-avoidance perspectives (e.g., Gray, 1990), in which manager ratings of subordinate charisma influenced subordinate ratings of interpersonal and informational justice through the mec

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Databases: Evolution, Current Landscape, and Future Development.

Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD), including conditions such as stress urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and fecal incontinence, significantly affects women's quality of life and their physical and mental health. With advancement of digital medicine, the systematic collection of data and the high-quality development of database platforms have increasingly become central pillars of PFD research and management. We systematically review the developmental stages of PFD-related databases. We then conduct a comparative analysis of representative international and domestic platforms, examinin

Sex Differences in Mast Cell-Associated Disorders: A Life Span Perspective.

Mast cells are critical innate immune effectors located throughout the body that are crucial for host defense mechanisms via orchestrating immune responses to a variety of host and environmental stimuli necessary for survival. The role of mast cells in brain development and behavior, meningeal function, and stress-related disorders has also been increasingly recognized. While critical for survival and development, excessive mast cell activation has been linked with an increasing number of inflammatory, stress-associated, and neuroimmune disorders including allergy/anaphylaxis, autoimmune disea

Organizational dynamics of interprofessional practice in the Norwegian prison system.

Reoffending rates may be reduced through efforts to rehabilitate prisoners. A more nuanced understanding is needed of how front-line prison and health care services collaborate during the rehabilitation process. We report an investigation of the organizational dynamics of interprofessional practice among prison, mental health, and welfare services in two Norwegian prison case studies. First, a high security (closed) prison where a coordination network was implemented among prison management, front-line staff, and external service personnel to enhance the prisoners' life management skills. Models of Network Spread and Network Degeneration in Brain Disorders.

Network analysis can provide insight into key organizational principles of brain structure and help identify structural changes associated with brain disease. Though static differences between diseased and healthy networks are well characterized, the study of network dynamics, or how brain networks change over time, is increasingly central to understanding ongoing brain changes throughout disease. Accordingly, we present a short review of network models of spread, network dynamics, and network degeneration. Borrowing from recent suggestions, we divide this review into two processes by which br

[Analysis of the implementation of the Tuberculosis Control Program in Brazilian prisons].

Tuberculosis control measures in Brazil's prison population have been regulated for ten years under the National Prison Health System Plan. Brazilian states have different organizational models for the Tuberculosis Control Program (TCP) in their prison systems. This study evaluated TCP implementation in prisons in two Brazilian states, using a multiple case study design with a qualitative approach and a log-frame analysis and assessment. According to predefined criteria, two state cases were selected, with two analytical units for each case and one prison hospital in Case 2. We identified part

Building a model to understand youth service access: the gateway provider model.

Enhancing the functioning of parents, teachers, juvenile justice authorities, and other health and mental heal professionals who direct children and adolescents to services is a major mental health services concern. The Gateway Provider Model is an elaborated testable subset of the Network-Episode Model (NEM; B. A. Pescosolido & C. A. Boyer, 1999) that synthesizes it with Decision (D. H. Gustafson, et al., 1999) and organizational theory (C. Glisson, 2002; C. Glisson & L. James, 1992, 2002). The Gateway Provider Model focuses on central influences that affect youth's access to treatment, i.e.,

When algorithms evaluate people: how AI video interviews relate to employability confidence and organizational attractiveness.

Algorithmic evaluation is increasingly entering high-stakes social contexts, including recruitment, where young people are assessed before any human interaction occurs. AI video interviews are one such setting; they are largely one-directional, opaque, and often provide no feedback about how applicants are evaluated. This study examines how such AI-mediated evaluation relates to two socially consequential perceptions among university students: confidence in their own employability and trust-related evaluations of organizations that deploy AI-based assessment. Drawing on Situated Expectancy-Val
