INTRODUCTION: Ambulatory interictal EEG cannot always clarify the nature of spells in patients with suspected epilepsy. Long term Video EEG Monitoring can help to diagnose the nature of recurrent attacks, classify epileptic seizures and aid with the localization of seizures in preoperative epilepsy surgery candidates.

Microcirculation represents a complex system devoted to provide optimal tissue substrates and oxygen. Therefore, pathophysiological and technological knowledge developments tailored for capillary circulation analysis should generate major advances for critically ill patients' management. In the future, microcirculatory monitoring in several critical care situations will allow recognition of macro-microcirculatory decoupling, and, hopefully, it will promote the use of treatments aimed at preserving tissue oxygenation and substrate delivery.

In order to detect minute amounts of glucose in diluted urine, we applied the Raman spectroscopy method. To simulate abnormal diluted urine in a toilet bowl, we diluted normal urine ten-fold with water and added glucose up to 8 mg dl(-1). Data were collected using a low-resolution Raman spectrometer that was preprocessed with the optimizing kernel method. This paper describes a system for measuring the temporal parameters of hemiplegic gait. This system uses shoe insoles with sensors, acting as switches, placed under the heel, head of the first metatarsal, head of the fifth metatarsal and the big toe. This system is able to monitor gait for up to 10 min and can be used by the patient over any surface. Parameters for evaluating hemiplegic gait are defined, including scuffing during swing and the degree of inversion during stance.

The first 2000 incidents reported to the Australian Incident Monitoring Study were analysed with respect to the role of the pulse oximeter.
