Diabetes causes cataract and certain physical changes in the lens. The diabetic lens is larger than the non-diabetic and shows greater light scatter and fluorescence. Both hyperglycaemia and lowering of blood glucose case refractive changes and hypermetropia is the most common. Classical 'snow-flake' juvenile cataract associated with hyperglycaemia is now rare. It has an osmotic mechanism. Diabetes is a risk factor for cataract in adults which is duration dependent, more frequent in women and leads to earlier surgery. There are a wide variety of laser pointers sold to the general public. Among those are the high-powered diode-pumped solid-state lasers (>5 mW), which do not follow the laser safety regulations for packing, and are sold as regular lasers without the infrared (IR) filters. In this case report, we encountered a patient with photoblepharokeratoconjunctivitis caused by the invisible IR radiations emitted from a green laser pointer. Owing to the thermal effect of the invisible IR rays led to the disease.

PURPOSE: To report our results of medical management of myopia, and add these to the prior literature supporting this practice.
METHOD: Retrospective review of the medical records of 35 patient-subjects offered this treatment with adequate followup over a five year period. Treatment consisted of prescription of photochromic gray extra lenses incorporating full myopic correction with a +3.00 bifocal addition, and atropine 1% ophthalmic drops, one in each eye, each night at bedtime.
