Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) have ongoing pain but Stellate ganglion block which is a sympatholytic block may be a viable therapy for treating it. The data were retrospectively collected from five histopathologically confirmed HNC patients who had completed chemotherapy and radiation doses. Stellate ganglion block was given to these patients and was subsequently monitored for 3 months to assess pain alleviation and overall satisfaction. Over a 3-month period, there was a decrease in the pain levels with a better quality of life so the stellate ganglion block can be a promising moda

BACKGROUND: Neck pain remains the fourth leading cause of disability and work loss, and a multimodal treatment approach is effective in reducing neck pain and disability.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to examine the use of cervical traction for managing neck pain by Physiotherapists in India, including how and when the traction is used, the modes and parameters of traction, any additional interventions given with traction, and the influence of professional demographic characteristics in decision making in traction usage.
STUDY DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey.
METHODOLOGY: A random …

BACKGROUND: Some interrelationships among fibromyalgia (FM), loss of cervical lordosis (LCL), and headache have been reported. Thus, it is sensible to examine LCL as a factor underlying FM and headache.
OBJECTIVE: In this study we aimed to assess LCL in chronic neck pain patients (CNPP) with FM and its association with headache features and FM severity.
METHODS: CNPP with (n= 55; mean age 40.0 ± 8.5; range 20 to 55 years) and without FM (n= 55; mean age 38.5 ± 8.9; range 20 to 55 years) were included in the study. Cervical lordosis was assessed by measuring the Cobb angle on the lateral cerv…

Pericardial effusion is rare in pediatric patients and is characterized by a variable clinical presentation. Mild symptoms may be present despite severe effusion. We here report the case of a patient with massive pericardial effusion with mild clinical presentation. Our case points out the need not to exclude this diagnosis in patients with mild general impairment. This clinical suspicion can be lifesaving.

ObjectivesThe perceived outcomes of scapulothoracic mobilisation with movement (MWM) in patients with neck pain and scapular dyskinesis remain unclear. This study aimed to examine the effects of adding scapulothoracic MWM to the corrective exercise and taping regimen in patients with neck pain and scapular dyskinesis.MethodsForty participants with neck pain and scapular dyskinesis were randomly assigned to one of two 3-week regimens: experimental (scapulothoracic MWM + corrective exercises + tape) or comparison (corrective exercises + tape). The visual analogue scale, pressure pain threshold (…

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to analyze the interaction between neck and/or wrist pain and hand grip strength (HGS) and to investigate factors (age, sex, neck disorders, and carpal tunnel syndrome) influencing the HGS of industrial quality proofing workers (N = 145).
METHODS: Standardized questionnaires [Neck Disability Index (NDI), Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire] were used to evaluate existing neck and/or wrist pain. HGS measurements were performed in different wrist positions.
RESULTS: Significant differences between participants with and without neck pain were found in differ…

BACKGROUND: Chronic neck pain (CNP) is a common and disabling musculoskeletal disorder in developing and developed countries. Previous studies have shown that tuina and traditional Chinese massage are effective treatments for patients with CNP. However, there is little evidence to support the use of one intervention over the other. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of tuina and traditional Chinese massage in the treatment of pain and disability in patients with CNP.
METHODS/DESIGN: This is a multicenter, assessor- and analyst-blinded, randomized controlled trial with two paralle…

Head and neck cancer can be painful, debilitating, and refractory to oral medications. Due to the association of the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) with maxillary nerve sensory fibers, SPG blocks may be used to treat the pain of the hard and soft palate, tonsils, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, oral gingiva, premaxillary soft tissue, maxilla, and orbital floor. We present the first case series of performing SPG blocks utilizing TX360 nasal atomizers or angiocatheters to treat head and neck cancer-related pain. Pain scores were reduced by 38% to 80% with an average pain relief duration of 23 da

BACKGROUND: Recent work described parameters of the helical axis in asymptomatic people with potential for investigating kinematic changes in the cervical region. This approach could provide novel information on movement variability in people with neck pain, however this has never been investigated. This study aimed to investigate movement variability during active neck movements performed at different speeds in people with and without chronic neck pain.
METHODS: This observational case-control study examined 18 participants with chronic neck pain of either idiopathic or traumatic origin and …

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the distribution of nociceptive nerve fibers in the cervical intervertebral discs of patients with chronic neck pain and determine whether these nociceptive nerve fibers are related to discogenic neck pain.
METHODS: We collected 43 samples of cervical intervertebral discs from 34 patients with severe chronic neck pain (visual analog scale [VAS] ≥ 70 mm), 42 samples from 36 patients who suffered cervical spondylotic radiculopathy or myelopathy without neck pain or with mild neck pain (VAS ≤ 30 mm) and 32 samples from eight donators to investigate their innervation imm…

OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of dry needling (DN) in the treatment of myofascial trigger points (MTrP) compared to other methods of physical therapy in the treatment of neck pain.
METHOD: A systematic search was carried out in the MEDLINE Complete (EBSCO), Pubmed, PEDro and Scopus databases. The quality of the studies was assessed using the standard of biases of the Cochrane Collaboration.
RESULTS: Eleven articles met the eligibility criteria. The characteristics of the participants and the results of the comparison of the application of DN with ultrasound, TENS, manual therapy techn…

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Psychosocial risk factors may predispose to progression of back and neck pain to chronic pain or disability. Resilience (the ability to recover from stress) and pain self-efficacy (confidence that one can perform daily activities despite pain) are important psychometric properties shown to affect health and illness.
PURPOSE: To examine the relationships among resilience, pain self-efficacy, and disability in spine patients.
DESIGN/SETTING: Prospective, single-center orthopedic spine clinic.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the differences in the clinical effects on cervical spondylosis with neck pain between the grain-moxibustion combined with acupuncture and simple acupuncture.
METHODS: Eighty-eight cervical spondylosis patients with neck pain who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 44 cases in each one. The patients in the control group were treated with conventional acupuncture, and grain-moxibustion was applied on the basis treatment of the control group in the observation group. The treatment was given 3 times a week, once ev…

Spontaneous pneumomediastinum is an uncommon clinical condition in pediatric field. We report two pediatric cases with first time wheezing episode complicated by pneumomediastinum. Investigations failed to reveal any underlying cause for secondary pneumomediastinum. Pneumomediastinum most commonly occurs in asthmatic children. It can be explained by increased pressure gradient between the intraalveolar and interstitial spaces. We conclude that high prevalence of respiratory infections in children predisposes for spontaneous pneumomediastinum due to increased pressure within obstructed airways,
