Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare spindle cell neoplasm, originally described in the pleural cavity. It may also occur in extrapleural organs like adrenal gland. We present a case of a fifty two-year old Arab man who has been admitted in urology department for right lumbar pain. A suspect malignant adrenal mass has been detected. He underwent right adrenalectomy and histologically it was SFT. The follow-up three years after surgery is unremarkable. The prognosis of SFT after surgery is unpredictable. A long term follow-up is mandatory to detect local recurrence or distant metastasis.

Solitary fibrous tumour is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm previously thought to only originate from the pleura; it is seen only rarely in an extra-pleural location. We report the first case of pancreatic solitary fibrous tumour in an 87-year-old woman that has metastasized to the lungs and subcutaneous tissue. We have identified a solitary mass excised from the groin region, which is positive for CD34 and vimentic marker with high proliferative rate, nuclear atypia and cellular necrosis. Imaging studies confirmed a slow-growing solitary mass in the uncinate lobe of the pancreas with evidence

Brain metastases are the most common intracranial malignancy in adults and may occasionally deposit within a pre-existing primary brain neoplasm. We describe, in two directly related family members, the rare occurrence of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) metastasis to haemangioblastoma (HB) in the context of Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. Detection of this phenomenon can be marred by histological overlap between RCC and HB and therefore careful histological examination, and consideration of supportive immunohistochemistry, is required when examining all HB resections. Metastatic RCC to HB upstages a pr

Granular cell tumor is a rare benign neoplasm most commonly appears in the head and neck region, especially in the tongue, cheek mucosa, and palate. Occurrence in limbs is even rarer. These tumors account for approximately 0.5% of all soft tissue tumors. Granular cell tumor can also affect other organs including skin, breast, and lungs. Local recurrence and metastasis is potentially higher in malignant forms with poor prognosis in respect to the benign counterparts. The average diameter of the tumor is usually about 2-3 cm. We report a granular cell tumor in the leg with an unusual size.

We report PET/CT appearance of bilateral ovarian metastases in a 63-year-old female patient with newly diagnosed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the stomach. She was also found to have peritoneal metastasis on an outside CT study. Staging PET/CT demonstrates not only the hypermetabolic gastric primary tumor and peritoneal disease but also bilateral enlarged, moderately active ovaries. The patient subsequently underwent biopsies of bilateral ovaries which revealed metastatic disease from primary gastric carcinoma. It is important to consider this form of neoplasm in the differential dia

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a malignant neoplasm that commonly arises in the major or minor salivary gland and usually forms mass lesions. Here, we report a case of ACC involving a 56-year-old man, who displayed right multiple cranial nerve palsies with ipsilateral severe facial pain but not any mass formation. Right submaxillary gland biopsy after repeated challenges at last revealed the primary focus of ACC with perineural invasion and without lymph node metastasis. The neurological manifestations were considered to be attributed to the perineural spread of ACC. It is extremely rare fo

A 9-year-old Giant Schnauzer was referred for polyuria and polydipsia. On abdominal ultrasound, a hyperechoic mass with low color Doppler signal was detected in the medial right hepatic lobe. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) demonstrated increased enhancement of the mass during the arterial phase, and contrast washout during portal and late phases with decreased enhancement relative to the liver. These findings were consistent with primary liver malignancy or liver metastasis. A final diagnosis of cholangiocellular adenoma was made based on histopathology. To our knowledge, this is the firs

Thymoma is the most common neoplasm in the anterior mediastinum. This report presents an extremely rare case of a type A thymoma with Masaoka's stage IV b due to lymph node metastasis. In 1997, a 59-year-old man underwent complete resection of a stage IV b type A thymoma with postoperative radiotherapy to the mediastinum. In 2006, small nodules were detected in the anterior mediastinum and above the right diaphragm and tumor resection was performed. The two lesions were both histologically diagnosed as recurrences of the type A thymoma. There has been no evidence of recurrence 15 months after

INTRODUCTION: Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of salivary glands is a rare malignant neoplasm, presenting a striated muscular differentiation. It is typically observed in children, adolescents, and young adults but can sometimes be diagnosed in older people.
OBSERVATION: We report the case of a 57 year-old man presenting with a primary alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of the parotid gland. The patient was treated by surgery and radiotherapy.
DISCUSSION: According to literature data, alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of the parotid gland is exceptionally described after 40 years of age. In that case it has the wo

Polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) is a malignant neoplasm of low aggressiveness that occurs almost exclusively in the minor salivary glands, primarily those in the palate. We report a case of PLGA that arose in the base of the tongue and subsequently metastasized to the neck. The tumor was resected through the oral cavity with wide margins and dissection. The neck metastasis was treated with radical neck dissection and radiotherapy. The patient recovered and remained disease-free at follow-up 30 months later. This case shows that PLGA, which has a variable morphologic appearance, ca

The spread of metastases to the brain and the leptomeninges is usually a terminal event in patients with known malignancies. We report on two patients, in whom the diagnosis of a diffusely metastasizing carcinoma was considerably delayed by the initial symptom of a peripheral facial nerve paralysis. The clinical, neuroradiologic and cerebrospinal fluid findings are discussed. A malignant neoplasm with diffuse or focal metastasis to the leptomeninges is a rare cause of peripheral facial paralysis of unclear genesis. The necessity of a lumbar puncture plus magnetic resonance imaging of the brain

This report details clinical and pathologic aspects of a patient with small cell undifferentiated carcinoma of the prostate and systemic hyperglucagonemia. A panel of potential serologic markers was evaluated in order to document additional evidence of ectopic hormonal production. Immunocytochemical markers were sought in tissue samples from the primary neoplasm and a lung metastasis. Stains were positive for corticotropin (ACTH) and gastrin in both the prostate and in the lung, but no evidence of excess secretion was documented. These findings are consistent with the notion that neuroendocrin

Two sisters are reported treated at various times for thyroid medullary carcinoma. In one of them, treated later, right adrenal tumour coexisted suggesting a classical picture of the syndrome of multiglandular endocrine adenomatosis type 2a. Histological examination of the adrenal tumour showed presence of metastasis of medullary thyroid carcinoma, that is atypical pattern of this neoplasm. In the light of these the authors stress the necessity of comprehensive diagnosis of thyroid tumours with particular stress laid on histological preoperative diagnosis. Indications are discussed to thyroid

Hidradenocarcinoma (HC) is a malignant and aggressive sweat gland tumour. It is a rare occurrence, accounting for about 6% of malignant eccrine cancers and less than 1% of all cutaneous neoplasms. It is a malignant tumor which can manifest itself in any area of the body, including the anterior surface of the trunk, the torso, scalp, face, and extremities. It is apparent that HC has a high propensity for lymphatic metastasis. The suggested treatment approach for HC implies making a wide surgical excision with negative margins. Nevertheless, such tumours are aggressive and recur locally in 50% o

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a frequent malignant neoplasm of the skin that usually arises from areas of solar dermatosis. It is characterized by local invasiveness and regional lymph node metastasis, mainly in poorly differentiated tumours. Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a lectin that is expressed in the nucleus or cytoplasm and has been identified as a prognostic tool for human neoplasms. The purpose of this study was to characterize Gal-3 expression in canine cutaneous SCCs and to investigate its relationship with tumour differentiation and cell proliferation indices. Immunohistochemical analysi

Trichoblastic carcinosarcoma is a rare biphasic adnexal neoplasm. This case report chronicals the eighth occurrence of this tumor published in the English literature and provides a review of the prior publications. Clinically, this tumor presents as an isolated, rapidly growing lesion in elderly patients and is usually cured by complete surgical excision, with no evidence of recurrence or metastasis at follow-up (7/8 cases). Histopathologically, trichoblastic carcinosarcoma is dermal-based, with an epithelial component of basal cells and a mesenchymal component of spindle cells, both of which

Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are derived from neuroendocrine cell system and can have benign or malignant characteristics. They are rare tumors, but have been increasing in incidence over the past 40 years. Patients with NENs may develop symptoms due to primary tumor invasion, metastasis, or from secretion of hormonally active tumor substances. Multiple imaging modalities are used for diagnosis and staging, including specialty scans such as 111In pentetreotide (Octreoscan) and 68Gallium-DOTATATE, along with endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, and biochemical marker testing. Treatment involves

Neoplasms of the major and minor salivary glands are morphologically and a clinically diverse group of neoplasms which lead the clinician to diagnostic and management challenges. This article aims to report a case of mucoepidermoid carcinoma in 83 - year - old woman who presented in the dermatology clinic with a tumour mass in the left auricular area. The patient complained of pain and abnormal bleeding of the mass. The lesion was examined, and surgical treatment was performed. A tumour was extirpated, and partial resection of both the parotid gland and the sternocleidomastoid muscle was done.

Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is an uncommon tumour within the spectrum of histiocytic and dendritic cell neoplasms that can occur at nodal and extra-nodal sites. Besides being rare, these tumours are difficult to diagnose. A 72-year-old man with a painless mass in the right tonsil was admitted to the Mersin University Hospital. Tonsillectomy was performed. Microscopically, the tumour consisted of spindle-shaped cells with large oval to polygonal nuclei. Lymphocytes were scattered among the tumour cells. Immunohistochemically, the cells were positive for CD23 and vimentin. The tumou

Leydig cell tumours account for only 1-3% of all testicular neoplasms. They are commonly detected as palpable masses, but can present with precocious puberty, gynecomastia or infertility. Although they are usually benign, about 10% of the reported cases have evolved as a malignant neoplasm. There are no histologic features pathognomonic for malignancy and metastasis is the only certain criterion of a malignant. Leydig cell tumour. The follow-up must be prolonged. The treatment of this tumour is orchidofuniculectomy by inguinal approach, associated with retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy when regi
