IFNα has been used to treat malignant and viral disorders for more than 25 years. Its efficacy is likely the consequence of its broad range of biologic activities, including direct effects on malignant cells, enhancement of anti-tumor immune responses, induction of proapoptotic genes, inhibition of angiogenesis, and promotion of the cycling of dormant malignant stem cells. BACKGROUND: The benefit of the potent chemotherapeutic agent cisplatin in treating neoplasms is limited by nephrotoxicity. We tested the hypothesis that CD54 [intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1)] is an important mediator in cisplatin-mediated renal failure.

The relationship between CCl4 or (CCl4 + phenobarbital)-induced liver cirrhosis and diethylnitrosamine (DEN) hepatocarcinogenesis in male F-344 rats was investigated. Mumps virus replication was examined in various culture cells derived from mice.
