Occupational health and safety evaluation of biogenic and anthropogenic VOC emissions in car paints workplace and artists' paint workplace.

There is significant concern regarding the inventory of pollutants, with a particular focus on understanding the major sources of emissions and their impact on human health. The study investigated the indoor air quality of pollutants to which workers were exposed during different painting processes, including those employed in the automotive industry and those engaged in artistic painting. Sampling was conducted using Tenax-TA in one painting class and two printmaking classes at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Education in Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, as well as in a car paintin

Occupational future time perspective and mental health problems across adolescence: Random-intercept cross-lagged panel analysis and alternative variations.

INTRODUCTION: Adolescence is a crucial developmental stage characterized by escalating mental health issues as well as an increasing awareness of future career possibilities. Occupational future time perspective has been shown to be a promotive factor for social functioning and mental health, and a component in evidence-based clinical practices and randomized controlled trial intervention studies. However, it requires more rigorous and ecological corroboration from longitudinal analysis at the within-person level. METHODS: Random intercept cross-lagged panel models with several adjustments an

New-onset or Exacerbated Occupational Hand Eczema among Healthcare Workers During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Growing Health Problem.

Hand hygiene is one of the cornerstones in ensuring effective infection control during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of new-onset occupational HE during the COVID-19 outbreak in healthcare workers (HCWs) and the clinical course, clinical features, and risk factors of occupational hand eczema (HE). A total of 159 volunteer HCWs (female: n=112; male: n=47, mean age=35.55±7.03 years) working in a pandemic hospital were included. Participants were questioned in terms of daily hand hygiene, use of gloves, and signs and symptoms associated w

Longitudinal Mental Health Effects of the 2016 Terrorist Attack in Berlin on Various Occupational Groups of Emergency Service Personnel.

Emergency service personnel who respond to terrorist attacks may experience persistent stress following the event. This occupational stress must be examined in order to develop occupation-specific response preparation and follow-up measures. An explorative pilot study examined the occupational stress-related effects of the 2016 terrorist attack on Breitscheidplatz in Berlin on emergency service personnel. The present study examines whether the results of the pilot study can be replicated and whether the effects changed after 2 years. The participants were 60 emergency personnel (including 11 p

Transfer of occupational health problems from a developed to a developing country: lessons from the Japan-South Korea experience.

Many corporations move their manufacturing facilities or technologies from developed to developing countries. Stringent regulations have mad … opane poisoning. These examples suggest that counter-measures are needed to prevent the transfer of occupational health problems from a developed to a developing country. Corporate social responsibility should be emphasized, close inter-governmental collaboration is necessary and cooperation among non-governmental organizations is helpful.

We report two patients who suffered from acid burns while working in chemical factories. Case 1: a 44-year-old man who received burn induced by nitric acid on the face and extremities. Despite his protecting facial mask, he was exposed to nitric acid on his face through a gap between the mask and skin surface. Nitric acid was also sprinkled on his scalp which was not covered by a helmet or a protecting device. In addition, he suffered from acid burn on the right scapular region, the right upper arm, and the lower extremities through the work clothes. Case 2: a 26-year-old man who suffered from

[Occupational exposure and health effects of metallic mercury among dentists and dental assistants: a preliminary study. Valencia, Venezuela; 1998].

The aim of this investigation was to establish mercury (Hg) health effects on dentists and dental assistants, its relationship with exposure conditions and the potential renal damage Hg-related. The total population was 66 people, with a sample of 37 (56%), 22 dentists (59.5%, 19 male, 3 female) and 15 dental assistants (40.5%, all female). This was accomplished by an interview, Hg in urine (Hg-U) and N-acetyl-B-D-glucosaminidase activity in urine (NAG-U). Average values of Hg-U for dentists were 22.4 +/- 6.4 micrograms/g creatinine and 22.2 +/- 6.1 micrograms/g creatinine for dental assistant

Increased risk of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection related to the occupational exposures of health care workers in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

SETTING: Chiang Rai, the northernmost province of Thailand. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the occupational risk for tuberculous infection of health care workers (HCWs) and the utility of tuberculin skin test (TST) in a developing country setting. DESIGN: A cross-sectional TST survey, including a risk assessment questionnaire, of Chiang Rai Hospital HCWs. RESULTS: Of 911 HCWs tested, 623 (68%) had indurations of > or = 10 mm and 322 (35%) indurations of > or = 15 mm. Factors most predictive for TST positivity, using either cut-off, were employment > 1 year, frequent direct patient contact, and male

Not all workplace bullying perpetrators are alike: health, personality, and occupational profiles of perpetrator-only and target-perpetrator employees.

BACKGROUND: Research on workplace bullying (WB) has primarily focused on targets, whereas those who engage in bullying have often been treated as a homogeneous group. It remains unclear whether employees who only enact bullying (perpetrator-only) and those who both enact and experience bullying (target-perpetrator) represent distinct forms of perpetration-related involvement. OBJECTIVE: The present study examined whether perpetrator-only and target-perpetrator groups could be differentiated based on their health-related, personality, and occupational profiles. METHODS: Cross-sectional Wave 1

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of alcohol mixed with energy drink (AmED) usage among commercial drivers in Ghana and examine associated demographic, behavioral, physical, and psychosocial work factors. METHODS: This analytical cross-sectional study used a convenience sampling technique to recruit 7,540 commercial drivers from the Greater Accra Region. Bivariate analyses and hierarchical binary logistic regression were used to identify individual and organization factors associated with AmED use. Uncovering Pathways to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS): Presenteeism and Psychosocial Safety Climate in the JD-R-OHS Model.

Occupational health and safety (OHS) remains a critical concern, yet the psychosocial mechanisms linking job demands and leadership to safety behaviors and motivation remain underexplored within the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) framework. This three-wave longitudinal study extended the JD-R-OHS model to examine Psychosocial Safety Climate (PSC) and health-related work functioning, operationalized as presenteeism using the Stanford Presenteeism Scale (SPS-6), in relation to safety outcomes. Structural equation modeling distinguished pathways linking safety-specific leadership and job-family dem…

Continuity or Change: Occupational Health Policies of Key Organizations in Great Britain After the Major COVID Waves 2020-2022.

The neglect of occupational health and safety within Great Britain spans many decades. There has been limited or no recognition of many occupational diseases partly compounded by a chronically under-funded and under-staffed central and local government inspectorate. Workplace inspections have declined. Little enforcement, prosecution and fines of those breaching laws occur. With its departure from the European Union, Great Britain has further neglected hazards at work and has become even more committed to soft regulation and de facto deregulation under the guise of "better regulation" to suppo…
