Prenatal testosterone of progenitors could be involved in the etiology of both anorexia nervosa and autism spectrum disorders of their offspring.

OBJECTIVES: High intrauterine testosterone (T) levels seem to play a role in the development of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), but their role in anorexia nervosa (AN) is controversial. Parents with masculinized 2D:4D ratios, a marker of the organizational effects of T, may have other relevant biological characteristics, in particular exposing their offspring to high T levels in the prenatal environment. This would increase the likelihood of their offspring developing these disorders. METHODS: The present study examined whether parents of offspring with AN (n=34; mean age= 51) and ASD (n=36

Enhancing Medical Committee Decision-Making: Insights from Qatar.

BACKGROUND: Treatment Abroad (TA) programs are a key component of healthcare delivery for complex cases requiring highly specialized care. In Qatar, the International Medical Affairs Office (IMAO) manages over 11,000 TA requests annually through multidisciplinary committees and specialized subcommittees to support evidence-based decision-making. Despite advances in committee structures and the adoption of hybrid meeting models, challenges persist in optimizing efficiency, transparency, and committee member satisfaction, highlighting the need for systematic evaluation of committee processes and

Nevertheless, the public transport sector was required to continue services throughout the pandemic. OBJECTIVES: This paper aims to develop a better understanding of the experiences of organizational leaders and workers within the UK public transport sector (bus, rail, and tram). Specifically, it aims to explore the perceived balance of risk and mitigation of SARS-CoV-2 transmission, report on their per

Forms, interactions, and responses to social support: A qualitative study of support and adherence to photoprotection amongst patients with Xeroderma Pigmentosum.

OBJECTIVES: Social support influences adherence to treatment in chronic illness, but there is uncertainty about its facilitators and constraints. This study explored the forms, processes, and responses associated with mobilization of informal support across three life contexts amongst patients with Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP), a condition requiring rigorous photoprotection to reduce cancer risks. DESIGN: Qualitative interview study. METHODS: A total of 25 adults with XP participated in semi-structured interviews conducted face to face. An inductive thematic analysis was applied using a framew

Feasibility of Using Clinicians to Code the Actionability of Narrative Comments About Patient Experience for Quality Improvement.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Many healthcare organizations administer Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) surveys and use both quantitative ratings and qualitative narrative comments. While narrative data offer rich insights into patient experience, their time-intensive analysis often limits systematic use in quality improvement (QI). Healthcare organizations often underutilize this data, reading comments and not analyzing them systematically. This study examined the feasibility and accuracy of engaging clinicians in systematically coding narrative CAHPS data for QI.

Using Mixed-Methods Research to Address Stagnant Operative Mortality Rates in Congenital Heart Surgery.

IMPORTANCE: Operative mortality rates in the congenital heart disease population have remained stagnant at 2.8% for the last decade, prompting a mixed-methods exploration into what institutional factors might be at play. OBJECTIVES: After experiencing 0% operative mortality for 365 days, we aimed to qualitatively identify institutional factors impacting operative mortality and compare them to perceived reasons for operative mortality. DESIGN: A convergent mixed-methods design was used to compare quantitative and qualitative data. SETTING: This study was performed in a single-center pediatri

Qualitative Evaluation of the Africa Malaria Task Force Symposia Effectiveness on African Partner Nations' Malaria Vector Management Capacity.

INTRODUCTION: Creating health alliances to build meaningful networks is critical to combating regional and global burdens of disease. These alliances work by uniting support for elimination efforts through cooperative engagement at the national and international levels. The reduction in malaria-related morbidity and mortality in Africa since 2001 is in part because of investments of international organizations and governments in national level malaria control and prevention-related programs and research. Investment in malaria reduction networks has contributed to this success by strengthening

Specially designed labour rooms include bedroom-like rooms, ambient rooms, and Snoezelen rooms. OBJECTIVES: Primary: to assess the effects of care in an alternative institutional birth environment compared to care in a conventional institutional setting. Secondary: to determine if the effects of birth

"To Get the Patient the Best Care": A Qualitative Analysis of Community Health Worker Integration in North Carolina Federally Qualified Health Centers.

OBJECTIVE: Research suggests that community health worker (CHW) integration within clinical care teams can improve chronic disease outcomes and address health-related social needs. However, the processes by which CHWs are integrated in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and organizational factors enabling their success remain incompletely understood. Within the context of a national initiative sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this study assessed CHW integration across three North Carolina FQHCs with distinct patient populations, management systems, and level

Strategies used by organizations to scale deep: Lessons from a volunteer navigation intervention.

BACKGROUND: We know little about how non-profit organizations create the conditions within their communities that support sustainable change - a process that has been referred to as scaling deep. In this paper we explore the implementation of a volunteer community-based navigation program, within 46 community-based organizations, to better understand how organizations seek to create the cultural and relational conditions to support sustainable change. OBJECTIVE: To examine the strategies organizations used to scale deeply during a volunteer navigation (Nav-CARE) program implementation. DESIG
