OBJECTIVES: Pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) is prevalent in diabetes. Pathophysiological theories imply autoimmune destruction, lack of trophic effects of insulin or impaired neuronal stimulation, but the relationship between PEI and autonomic dysfunction is largely unknown. OBJECTIVE: Dilated common bile duct (CBD) (8-15 mm) with normal liver function tests is seen not infrequently, while management of such patients is ambiguous. We propose a treatment algorithm for this cohort of patients after observing them over a period of 8 years.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Modified Da Chaihu decoction (MDCH) is a traditional Chinese herbal prescription that has been used in the clinic to treat type 2 diabetes (T2D). Previous studies have confirmed that MDCH improves glycemic and lipid metabolism, enhances pancreatic function, and alleviates insulin resistance in patients with T2D and diabetic rats.
