The impact of co-lyophilizing horseradish peroxidase (HRP) with numerous amino acids and other chiral excipients on the enzyme's subsequent stereoselectivity [E(S/R)] in the sulfoxidation of thioanisole in 2-propanol was systematically investigated. While many improved the stereoselectivity of (and significantly activated) HRP, the greatest effect was observed with D-proline which enhanced the E(S/R) value by over an order of magnitude from synthetically meaningless to useful.

Glutathione peroxidase activity (GSH-PX) and malondialdehyde (MDA) level of experimental traumatic cataract in rabbit were determined at various intervals after needling. GSH-PX activities decreased in the lens after perforated trauma from 8 hours to 21 days, meanwhile the MDA level increased markedly. The results demonstrate that free radicals are involved in the formation of traumatic cataract.

The contragestational steroid RU 486 enhanced the increase in peroxidase activity produced by estradiol in estrogen-primed immature rat uteri and, like the antiandrogen flutamide, RU 486 reversed the inhibitory effect of testosterone on this estrogen-induced response.
