Isolated myeloid sarcoma is an uncommon subtype of acute myeloid leukemia associated with variable prognosis. We present the case of a previously healthy 30-year-old man presenting with chest pain and weight loss who was found to have a large mediastinal mass. Biopsy of the mass was consistent with isolated myeloid sarcoma. A somatic tumor sequencing panel revealed an EGFR T790M variant, which was later confirmed to be of germline origin. Germline EGFR T790M variants are associated with a hereditary predisposition to lung cancer, though myeloid malignancies have not yet been described. To our

A 0.2-cm intramural focus composed predominantly of myelocytes and metamyelocytes, many CD3+, CD43+ T-lymphocytes, scanty CD20+ B-lymphocytes, rare mast cells, but no eosinophils or myeloblasts was incidentally found in a ligation specimen of the left fallopian tube. The myeloid cells were positive for chloroacetate esterase, myeloperoxidase, myeloid marker BM2, and CD43, and they were negative for CD30, CD34, CD117, ERG, and TDT. The findings in the left fallopian tube were consistent with the diagnosis of differentiated myeloid sarcoma. The right fallopian tube was normal. No hematologic abn

BACKGROUND: Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is rarely caused by the PLZF::RARα fusion gene. While APL patients with PLZF::RARα fusion commonly exhibit diverse hematologic symptoms, the presentation of myeloid sarcoma (MS) as an initial manifestation is infrequent.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old patient was referred to our hospital with 6-month history of low back pain and difficulty walking. Before this admission, spine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) conducted at another hospital revealed multiple abnormal signals in the left iliac bone and vertebral bodies spanning the thoracic (T11-T

We report isolated extramedullary relapse in a 14-year-old boy, sequentially presenting with intestinal and cardiac myeloid sarcoma (MS). Acute myeloblastic leukemia M5 was diagnosed 41 months ago. On the 14th month of the second HSCT, he presented with ileus and underwent surgical treatment. After 2 weeks, arrhythmia, bradycardia, complete heart block, and atrial flutter developed and echocardiography revealed multiple cardiac masses. There was no bone marrow relapse but pathology of the intestinal biopsy showed leukemic infiltration. Patient was successfully treated with a permanent pacemake

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare hematological malignancy characterized as an extramedullary tumor mass of neoplastic myeloid blasts that may involve various anatomical sites and affect their tissue structure. Given that MS is very rare, there is insufficient knowledge regarding its clinical features and no well-established therapeutic guidelines. We conducted a retrospective study of MS patients diagnosed between 2000 and 2016 using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. We studied survival outcomes across different demographic and therapeutic subgroups. We also invest

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common form of acute leukemia. It is characterized by unfavorable prognosis, elevated rates of recurrence, short overall survival and high mortality rates. Genetic and epigenetic aberrations contribute to its initiation and progression, presenting a considerable clinical challenge. Genomic investigations revealed that FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3), a receptor tyrosine kinase regulating the proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic cells, is overexpressed in AML leukemic blasts. To date, FDA has approved only three FLT3 inhibitors for target

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma is a rare malignant hematopoietic neoplasm that arises at extramedullary sites. Although myeloid sarcoma may involve any organ, central nervous system (CNS) involvement is exceptionally rare. To date, few case reports and case series have described CNS myeloid sarcoma, the majority of which include peripheral disease.
OBSERVATIONS: The authors present an illustrative case of an adult male with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in remission relapsing with an isolated, diffuse myeloid sarcoma of the cerebellum. Magnetic resonance imaging showed posterior fossa crowding an

Background and Clinical Significance: Mixed-phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL) is a rare hematologic malignancy characterized by the co-expression of myeloid and lymphoid markers and is associated with poor prognosis. Myeloid sarcoma (MS), particularly in the mediastinum, is an uncommon extramedullary manifestation and is rarely reported in association with MPAL. Case Presentation: We report a rare case of mediastinal MS with biphenotypic features and pericardial extension occurring concurrently with MPAL, highlighting diagnostic challenges, therapeutic strategies, and long-term outcomes. We desc

Myeloid sarcoma, also known as granulocytic sarcoma or chloroma, is an extra-medullary accumulation of malignant myeloid blast cells, leading to a solid tumor formation. Herein, we report a rare presentation of a case with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), whose disease relapse was clinically evident as acute flaccid paraplegia with a certain sensory level. On thoracic spine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), an epidural mass compressing the spinal cord at the level of the thoracic spine segment 4 (T4) was found. The mass histology confirmed the diagnosis of myeloid sarcoma.

Myeloid sarcomas are extramedullary accumulations of immature myeloid cells that may present with or without evidence of pathologic involvement of the bone marrow or peripheral blood, and often coincide with or precede a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). A dearth of experimental models has hampered the study of myeloid sarcomas and led us to establish a new system in which tumor induction can be evaluated in an easily accessible non-hematopoietic tissue compartment. Using ex-vivo transduction of oncogenic Kras(G12V) into p16/p19(-/-) bone marrow cells, we generated transplantable leuk

BACKGROUND: Extramedullary tumors of lymphoid and myeloid blasts outside the well-defined sanctuaries following allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (allo-BMT) are rare. Little is known about the biology, treatment, and outcome of these tumors in this setting.
METHODS: In this retrospective analysis, 134 consecutive patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) who underwent allo-BMT at a single institution between 1990 and 1998 were reviewed. Five cases of isolated extramedullary myeloid sarcoma that occurred as patterns of recurrence following allo-BMT betwe

Myeloid sarcoma is a neoplasm of myeloid cells that can arise before or concurrent with or may follow acute myeloid leukemia. Very rarely, it can present as an isolated breast lump. We have diagnosed a case of myeloid sarcoma by fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), in a 52-year-old woman who presented with the right-sided breast lump. FNAC showed hypercellular smears with immature myeloid cells few neutrophils and many large round cells with high nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, prominent nucleoli and a moderate amount of granular cytoplasm. The blast cells were myeloperoxidase positive and compl

Myeloid sarcoma, due to extramedullary deposition of myeloblasts, is one of the rare presentations in acute myeloid leukemia. We present an extremely rare case of a 5-year-old boy with cardiac myeloid sarcoma. Noninvasive mode of diagnosis, timely initiation of chemotherapy and meticulous supportive care are the keys to successful outcome. (Level of Difficulty: Intermediate.).

Granulocytic sarcoma is an extramedullary collection of myeloblasts that is usually associated with acute or chronic myeloid leukemia. It can be found in any location throughout the body; however, multifocal skeletal involvement is extremely rare. This report describes a case of granulocytic sarcoma in a 33-year-old man, manifesting as multiple skeletal lesions along with signs of cord compression without any preceding history of myeloid leukemia. Cytogenetic studies revealed t(8,9) translocation, which has never been reported in association with granulocytic sarcoma. The prognostic significan

RATIONALE: Primary granulocytic sarcoma of the breast is a rare and poor-prognosis malignancy. Clinicians do not have sufficient knowledge of this disease and often misdirect it as other soft tissue sarcomas or inflammation.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 42-year-old female presented with a self-discovered asymptomatic growing and palpable right breast mass that had been present for 4 months.
DIAGNOSES: The patient was diagnosed as primary myeloid sarcoma.
INTERVENTIONS: The patient received modified radical mastectomy in the right breast and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Pathological diagnosis is prima

Pure erythroid leukemia (PEL) is a rare type of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with a very aggressive clinical course. Presentation as a myeloid/erythroid sarcoma is exceedingly rare. We describe an infantile PEL presenting as a multifocal myeloid sarcoma, clinically and pathologically mimicking Ewing sarcoma/PNET family of tumors. The patient died 8 weeks after the initial presentation due to widespread disease. Our case shows that PEL needs to be considered in the differential diagnosis of small round blue cell tumors in infancy. A meticulous workup including immunohistochemistry, flow cytomet

Chloroma, also called Granulocytic Sarcoma or Myeloid Sarcoma, is a rare malignant extra-medullary neoplasm of myeloid precursor cells. It is usually associated with myelo-proliferative disorders but its appearance may precede the onset of leukaemia. Chloroma may be found in several extracranial sites. Involvement of the head and neck region is uncommon. Differential diagnosis is often difficult and includes acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, large cell NHL, lymphoblastic lymphoma and Ewing's sarcoma. The case is presented of a maxillo-ethmoidal chloroma occurring in a case of poor prognosis acute

Extramedullary leukemia in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia can manifest as a myeloid sarcoma (MS), also known as granulocytic sarcoma or chloroma, in a variety of sites, or as leukemic blasts in the cerebrospinal fluid. Isolated MS of the central nervous system is rare. We report a case of acute myeloid leukemia with central nervous system-MS presenting as a posterior fossa mass mimicking a primary intracranial tumor.

Myeloid sarcoma is a tumor which consists of myeloblasts or immature myeloid cells. This tumor presents in the lymphoid organs, bone, skin, soft tissue, various mucosae and organs, and the central nervous system. Granulocytic sarcoma, an extramedullary acute myeloid leukemia, is also referred to as chloroma (GS) because of its greenish surface color. Granulocytic sarcoma is rare and difficult to diagnose. We can easily misdiagnose this tumor as lymphoma or sarcoma, especially when there is no evidence of hematologic disorders. Immunohistochemical studies are helpful in determining the correct
