This review focuses on current understanding of prenatal, prepubertal and post-pubertal development of the male reproductive system of cattle. The critical developmental events occur during the first 3 to 4 months of gestation and the first ~6 to 9 months after birth. The Wilms Tumor-1 and SRY proteins play critical roles in early development and differentiation of the fetal testis, which in turn drives gestational development of the entire male reproductive system. In this study, gonadogenesis, the effect of temperature (15, 20 and 25°C) on sex differentiation, and annual changes in the gonads of mature lake minnow Eupallasella percnurus (Pallas, 1814) were determined. The aim of this chapter is to revise some common views on changes in pubertal timing. This revision is based on recent epidemiological findings on the clinical indicators of pubertal timing and data on environmental factor effects and underlying mechanisms. Bothrops insularis is an endemic and critically endangered snake with an estimated population of 2000 individuals restricted to Queimada Grande Island, in southeastern Brazil. Puberty is the interval in the life cycle during which the child becomes an adult. It is heralded by physical changes such as acceleration of linear growth and appearance of secondary sexual characteristics, capped by attainment of reproductive capability, and orchestrated by increases in the secretion of hypothalamic, pituitary, and gonadal hormones. This article discusses selected historical and contemporary aspects of isosexual precocious puberty, i.e., the development of sexual characteristics prior to the usual age of pubertal onset.

AIM: To test the reliability of the self-classification concerning levels of breast and public hair development among female adolescents of different socioeconomic groups.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: A total of 445 female adolescents attending three secondary schools located in Ribeirão Preto, State of S. Paulo, Brazil, were studied. After being familiarised with Tanner's tables of breast and public hair development, the adolescents were asked to self classify themselves according to these variables. The results were compared to those obtained by a physical examination carried out soon after.

An unusual over-gravid female of Enterobius vermicularis was recovered from a 15-month old child by cello-tape anal swab. The patient resided in Inchon and complained of severe anal itching. Immunocytochemistry was used to determine the effects of photoperiod on the LHRH neurosecretory system in the brain of male European starlings. In this species, as in other birds, reproduction is triggered by long daylengths but continued exposure leads to photorefractoriness and to a complete shut-down of the reproductive system.
