Randomized clinical trial of capnometry-assisted respiratory training in veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder hyperarousal.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether capnometry-assisted antihyperventilation respiratory training, successful in treating panic, and sleep hygiene instructions would reduce posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) hyperarousal symptoms in U.S. military veterans. METHOD: We conducted a parallel, nonblinded clinical trial and randomized 80 veterans with PTSD hyperarousal into treatment or wait list. Primary treatment outcomes from baseline to 1st follow-up were analyzed using mixed modeling. Baseline physiological measures were compared between the PTSD hyperarousal group and a no-PTSD group (n = 68)…

Feeding at sleep time and early childhood caries: Validation of the feeding at sleep time (FeAST) scale in 12-36-month-old children in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

CONTEXT: Early childhood caries (ECC) remains a major public health concern in India, with feeding-at-sleep behaviors recognized as important behavioral risk factors. The feeding at sleep time (FeAST) scale was developed to quantify such behaviors, but its applicability across diverse Indian sociocultural settings remains uncertain. AIMS: To evaluate the external validity of the FeAST scale in identifying ECC risk among 12-36-month-old toddlers in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and to examine the association between socioeconomic status and ECC. SETTINGS AND DESIGN: A hospital-based cross-sectional st

Acanthamoeba keratitis in noncompliant soft contact lenses users: Genotyping and risk factors, a study from Cairo, Egypt.

UNLABELLED: Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) is a severe corneal infection that may occur as a serious outcome of improper use of contact lenses (CL). OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to diagnose AK in soft CL users presenting with infectious keratitis, and to identify the prevalent genotypes isolated from different cases. Another aim was to determine the CL hygiene-related risk behaviors, and to explore the risk of water exposure for developing AK. METHODS: A cross sectional study was performed. A questionnaire was carried out including 260 clinically diagnosed cases as infectious keratitis (170 fema

Associations Between Job-Strain, Physical Activity, Health Status, and Sleep Quality Among Swedish Municipality Workers.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the associations between work-stress and physical activity (PA) with sleep quality while controlling for covariates, including social support. METHODS: A cross-sectional study among employees of a municipality (n = 2765). Data from respondents (n = 1973) with good/poor sleep quality were included. Prevalence ratios (PR) were estimated using modified Poisson regression analyses. RESULTS: A significant interaction was observed between job-strain and self-reported health in the explanation of sleep quality. Consequently, interaction (job strain × self-rated health) adjuste

The Predictive Value of the Mother's Risk Factors in Formation of Fetal Developmental Delay.

The research aimed at studying the mother's social-hygienic and medical biological risk factors and determining their predictive value. The retrospective case-control study was conducted with 142 pregnant women participating in it. In the case group there were involved 92 mothers whose pregnancy was completed by the birth of a newborn baby suffering from the intrauterine growth restriction. The control group was made of 50 pregnant women, whose pregnancy was completed by the birth of a healthy neonate. The research resulted in specifying the risk factors of high priority: the low standards of

A Guide to Management of Sleepiness in ESKD.

Daytime sleepiness, also known as hypersomnolence, is common among patients receiving maintenance dialysis and following successful kidney transplantation. Sleepiness may be secondary to medical comorbid conditions, medication side effect, insufficient sleep syndrome, and sleep-disordered breathing or the result of a primary central disorder of hypersomnolence, such as narcolepsy. Unrecognized and untreated sleep disorders are associated with substantial morbidity and mortality among patients with end-stage kidney disease. Effective management of hypersomnolence can improve quality of life in

The Cognitive Toll of Digital Overuse on Migraine in Young Adults.

Migraine remains a major source of disability in young adults, and the rapid rise of digital overuse introduces a modern environmental burden that may worsen cognitive impact. Emerging evidence suggests that prolonged screen engagement interacts with core migraine mechanisms, such as cortical hyperexcitability, trigeminovascular activation, and circadian disruption, through factors including high-intensity blue light, sustained near-work posture, and, more controversially, radiofrequency electromagnetic fields. This editorial calls for future research that should determine how digital environm

'No Matter How Harsh, We Are Alive': Coping Strategies of Rural-Urban Migrant Homeless Older People in Ethiopia.

The prevalence of homelessness among older adults in Ethiopia is growing. While prior studies examined the push factors and challenges of homeless elders, little is known about how older people cope with homelessness in a context of limited ageing services. This study explored the coping strategies of homeless older people in Kobo Town, Ethiopia. Purposive sampling was used to identify 10 homeless older people and four key informants. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data collected through in-depth interviews. To cope with the challenges faced on the street, homeless older people used

Hong Kong nurses' health-related behaviours: implications for nurses' role in health promotion.

The health-related behaviors of a random sample (n = 92) of Hong Kong nurses were assessed by a questionnaire written either in English or in English and Chinese. Hong Kong nurses reported negligible smoking or alcohol use, low levels of breast self-examination, cervical screening behaviour and regular exercising, seat belt use and driving within the speed limit. The sample reported high levels of making efforts to avoid foods high in cholesterol, eating foods high in fibre and eating fruit daily. Dental hygiene was reported to be high. Just over half the sample reported sleeping 7-8 hours eac

Using the behaviour change wheel to develop a tailored intervention to overcome general practitioners' perceived barriers to referring insomnia patients to digital therapeutic sleepio.

BACKGROUND: Digital therapeutic Sleepio has proven effective in improving sleep quality and decreasing symptoms of anxiety. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance recommends Sleepio as an alternative treatment to usual sleep hygiene education and hypnotic medications. General practitioners (GPs) play a critical role in the adoption of digital therapeutics in patient care. Previous interventions did not adopt theoretical frameworks to systematically understand GPs behaviour toward referring patients to digital therapeutics. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to report …
