Endometrial stromal sarcomas (ESSs) account for approximately 0.2% of all uterine malignancies. Cellular leiomyoma (CL) often simulates low-grade ESS due to similar cytology. We report the case of a 34-year-old female with a mass per abdomen. Frozen sections showed a tumor with many thin- and thick-walled vessels along with hyaline material. A differential diagnosis of CL and endometrial stromal tumor was suggested. The index case was diagnostically challenging to pathologists. Paraffin sections supplemented by immunohistochemistry (smooth muscle actin, CD10, and beta-catenin) favored CL. Froz

BACKGROUND: Erectile dysfunction (ED) after injury to peripheral cavernous nerve (CN) is partly a result of inflammation in pelvic ganglia, suggesting that ED may be prevented by inhibiting neuroinflammation.
AIM: The aim of this study is to examine temporal changes of TNF-α, after bilateral CN injury (BCNI), to evaluate effect of exogenous TNF-α on neurite outgrowth from major pelvic ganglion (MPG), and to investigate effect of TNF-α signal inhibition to evaluate effects of TNF-α on penile tone with TNF-α receptor knockout mice (TNFRKO).
METHODS: Seventy Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized

Leiomyoma is a benign tumor of smooth muscle origin. Primary leiomyoma of the adrenal gland is very rare. Adrenal tumors are often diagnosed during the ultrasound or computerized tomography (CT) study as incidentaloma. According to the literature review, up to 2018, the largest size of adrenal leiomyoma which had ever been reported was 12 × 10 × 8 cm in dimension (Maher et al.). Herein, we report the largest adrenal leiomyoma with the tumor mass of 600 g (14,1x11,4x10,1 cm) from a female patient admitted to our hospital.

We present a 27-year-old male patient with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), facial palsy, and lagophthalmos following acoustic neuroma removal and an impressing vascularized corneal tumor, which was excised. Histology showed a fibrous tumor with small vessels, and immunohistochemistry was positive for vimentin and negative for smooth muscle actin, S100, and GFAP. We assume a corneal myofibroma (keloid), which in this case rather represents a reactive lesion. This entity has not been described before in NF2 or in facial palsy-associated lagophthalmos in general.

An abdominal mass detected in a 36-year-old man was thought from radiologic studies to be a renal neoplasm, but at surgery the kidney was found to be uninvolved. The 9.5-cm retroperitoneal tumor was resected totally and found to be encapsulated, and it appeared to be benign by light microscopy. The pattern of the spindle cells throughout the tumor suggested a cellular schwannoma, but immunocytochemical and ultrastructural studies did not support schwannian differentiation and instead revealed epithelial and smooth muscle features compatible with a myoepithelioma.

An angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign mesenchymal tumor characterized by proliferation of mature vessels, smooth muscle, and adipose tissue. AMLs most commonly occur in the kidney but have been reported in a variety of extrarenal sites. Mediastinal AMLs are extremely rare. We herein present a case of a large AML of the mediastinum that was successfully treated by thoracoscopic resection.

A case of giant congenital urethral polyp on a female newborn is reported. The lesion appeared as a large fleshy, exuberant tumor at the introitus between the labia minora. The mass was constituted by orderly arranged layers of transitional and squamous epithelium outside and loose connective tissue and smooth muscle in its core. The patient was treated by simple excision of the lesion.

Adenomyomas are benign tumors composed of smooth muscle and endometrial tissue. These tumors usually arise from the myometrium. Extrauterine adenomyomas are rare with only a few case reports available in the literature. Here, we report an unusual case of multiple adenomyomas in a 39-year-old woman six years after hysterectomy for multiple leiomyomata. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of extrauterine adenomyoma presenting as an upper abdominal mass.

Gastrointestinal Autonomic Nerve Tumors (GANTs) are an underrecognized group of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) putatively arising from the neural plexuses of the bowel wall. Approximately 24 cases have been previously reported. Their histogenesis, malignant potential, morphology and phenotypic features are not well defined. We present details of 10 GANTs iterating features, predominantly ultrastructural, allowing distinction from other GISTs. Clinical details are: sex-7M, 3F; age range 31-79 yrs, mean 53; symptoms/signs--abdominal pain 3, GI bleeding 3, mass 2, anemia 2. Follow-up ran

Angioleiomyoma (vascular leiomyoma) of the uterine cervix is an extremely rare type of benign tumor composed of smooth muscle cells and thick-walled blood vessels. Only a few cases of cervical angioleiomyoma have been reported. Here, we present imaging, including ultrasonography, contrast-enhanced CT, MRI, and histopathological findings of a 38-year-old female with an angioleiomyoma of the uterine cervix.

Leiomyoma is a benign smooth muscle tumor usually encountered in the uterus. Primary pulmonary localization is extremely rare in adults and children. However, it must be included in the differential diagnosis of any nodular lung lesion. Its treatment is surgical, with good long-term results. Here, we report a case of leiomyoma of lung parenchyma diagnosed in a 26-year-old man.

Leiomyosarcomas (LMSs) are malignant smooth-muscle tumors that most commonly arise in the uterus, retroperitoneum, or gastrointestinal tract, and only rarely originate in the adrenal gland. Orbital metastases from LMS are exceptionally rare. Two patients with histologically-confirmed orbital metastatic leiomyosarcoma arising from different primary sites are described: The first had uterine LMS with a destructive sphenoid lesion extending into the orbit, anterior and middle cranial fossae. The second developed bilateral metastases within extra-ocular muscles, several years after resection of an

Leiomyosarcoma is a rare malignant soft-tissue tumor whose cells resemble smooth-muscle tissue. It has been reported to arise in different areas of the head and neck region. Primary leiomyosarcoma of the parapharyngeal space, however, is extremely rare, as only 4 cases have been previously reported to date. We describe the somewhat urgent case of a primary leiomyosarcoma of the right parapharyngeal space in a 30-year-old man. We also review the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges that clinicians face in managing this rare tumor.

A case of gestational implantation upon a submucosal cellular leiomyoma in a 43-year-old woman is presented. The resulting histologic picture resembled placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT). In immunoperoxidase studies, tumor cells were positive for desmin and vimentin and negative for human placental lactogen and human chorionic gonadotropin, thus supporting a smooth muscle origin. This case demonstrates an unusual histological picture occurring in a setting that might lead to diagnostic confusion and is one in which immunohistochemical evaluation proved to be of great utility.

BACKGROUND Angiomyolipoma is a benign tumor composed of blood vessels, smooth muscle cells, and adipose tissue and has been described as belonging to the group of tumors of perivascular epithelioid cell origin (PEComa), commonly found in the kidneys and strongly associated with tuberous sclerosis. Only a few cases of extra-renal angiomyolipoma have previously been reported in the literature, most commonly in the liver. Adrenal angiomyolipoma is very rare, is usually asymptomatic, and is often found incidentally, with only 14 previously reported cases identified in the literature. CASE REPORT W

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare spindle cell neoplasm mainly originated in the pleural cavity. We report here an unusual case of a large SFT in the retroperitoneum. A 27-year-old female complaining of a palpable mass in the right flank with dull pain was admitted to our hospital with the diagnosis of right retroperitoneal tumor. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a large retroperitoneal tumor arising from latissimus dorsi muscle. Surgical findings revealed a partly encapsulated tumor and complete resection of tumor concomitantly with right kidney, 11th

The 2020 WHO Classification defines the spindle cell, epithelioid, and myxoid variants as subtypes of uterine leiomyosarcomas (LMS). Presence of cellular atypia (size variation of polymorphic nuclei > 2-3:1), tumor cell necroses, and mitotic count (usually ≥ 10 MF/10 HPF) are still the key features for diagnostic separation from uterine leiomyomas. Preanalytic variables, staining quality, as well as intralesional geographic distribution may affect the mitotic count. Smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP) still exist as a not yet well-characterized diagnostic entity. Immu…

Leiomyomas with schwannoma-like features are very rare and can resemble peripheral nerve sheath tumors, particularly if the characteristics of Verocay bodies and nuclear palisading are present. Inclusion of mature adipose tissue (lipomatous differentiation) within similar tumors is uncommon. To our knowledge, no case with cervical leiomyoma that simultaneously presents schwannoma-like and lipomatous differentiation has been reported. A 54-year-old perimenopausal woman was operated upon for assumed fibroid uterus with total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Grossly, th
