BACKGROUND: There is no large population-based study of the distribution and changing trend of strabismus surgeries in China. This study aimed to investigate the distribution and the changing trend of strabismus surgery in a tertiary hospital of China.
METHODS: A retrospective study of all the strabismus surgeries performed in Beijing Tongren Eye Center from 2003 to 2012 was carried out. Characteristics analyzed included the type of strabismus, age, and gender.

Orbital cellulitis is a rare complication of strabismus surgery. We report a case of a 4-year-old boy with bilateral orbital cellulitis after uneventful surgery to correct esotropia. Concomitant sinusitis was the likely source of infection. To our knowledge, this is the first case of bilateral orbital cellulitis following strabismus surgery.

Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome is a rare and acquired autoimmune disorder. We describe two female patients with medial rectus paresis as the only ocular manifestation. After a unilateral medial rectus recession and lateral rectus resection procedure, both patients recovered normal adduction. To our knowledge, this is the first report of surgery for extraocular muscle paresis in Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome.

PURPOSE: To report a case of filamentary keratopathy in a patient with large-angle paralytic strabismus.
METHODS: A 31-year-old man who had a traffic accident was diagnosed to have third cranial nerve palsy and a large-angle exotropia in his right eye. The patient complained of foreign body sensation in his right eye 2 months after the accident.
