Auditory illusions and Post-traumatic stress disorder: Sound test in a case-control study.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a prevalent and disabling disorder with a high degree of comorbidity. Clinical studies have focused on hallucinations, which could be associated with the severity of the disorder and treatment resistance. Auditory illusions have received little attention so far, possibly because they are particularly difficult to assess. However, they may impact functioning, and underdiagnosis could impair prognosis. To provide a clearer understanding of PTSD psychopathology, this paper proposes to focus on these auditory illusions. A monocentric case-control study was

[Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD (CPTSD) - a clinical update of knowledge].

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a class of non-coding RNA molecules with a length of more than 200 nucleotides that play key roles in the regulation of gene expression and cell physiology. Studies have shown that lncRNAs can participate in the regulation of the TGF-β/Smad signalling pathway by sponging miRNAs or directly activating Smad protein phosphorylation. The TGF-β/Smad signalling pathway has become a key signalling pathway in osteoarthritis (OA), a traditional degenerative joint disease characterised by an imbalance between cartilage degradation and repair. This review systematically

Agmatine diminishes behavioral and endocrine alterations in a rat model of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), is a severe anxiety disorder characterized by associative fear conditioning. Single prolonged stress (SPS) is a widely accepted reliable animal model to stimulate PTSD. Agmatine is an endogenous neuromodulator of stress; however, its effect on PTSD remains to be investigated. This study explored the role of agmatine in conditioned fear response (CFR) in PTSD and highlighted the role of imidazoline receptors in the effect of agmatine. Intra-cerebroventricular (icv) surgery was done in order to facilitate drug administration. Animals were subjected to SPS.

Alpha-2 Agonists in Children and Adolescents With Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: A Systematic Review.

Exposure to traumatic stress is common among children. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating chronic mental disorder that can develop following exposure to a traumatic event. Psychopharmacological research in pediatric PTSD is limited. There is some evidence supporting the use of alpha-2 (α2) agonists for symptoms associated with PTSD. This systematic review identified published studies evaluating the effectiveness of α2 agonists in treating PTSD symptoms in children and adolescents. We conducted an extensive literature search on PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Collaboratio

Investigations on Rho/ROCK signaling in post-traumatic stress disorder-like behavior in mice.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a chronic condition that occurs in response to a traumatic event, and consequently, enhances the threat sensitivity. Rho/ROCK signaling has been implicated in the consolidation of fear memory, stress, depression, anxiety, and traumatic brain injury. However, its role in post-traumatic stress disorder remains elusive. Therefore, the present study was designed to explore the role of fasudil, a Rho/ROCK inhibitor, a mouse model of PTSD. Mice were subjected to underwater trauma stress followed by three situational reminders. Underwater trauma (UWT) signific

The influence of the BDNF Val66Met genotype on emotional recognition memory in post-traumatic stress disorder.

Dysregulated consolidation of emotional memories is a core feature of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) influences synaptic plasticity and emotional memory consolidation. The BDNF Val66Met polymorphism has been associated with PTSD risk and memory deficits respectively, although findings have been inconsistent, potentially due to a failure to control for important confounds such as sex, ethnicity, and the timing/extent of previous trauma experiences. Furthermore, very little research has examined the impact of BDNF genotypes on emotional memory in P

Emphasizing the Crosstalk Between Inflammatory and Neural Signaling in Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic incapacitating condition with recurrent experience of trauma-related memories, negative mood, altered cognition, and hypervigilance. Agglomeration of preclinical and clinical evidence in recent years specified that alterations in neural networks favor certain characteristics of PTSD. Besides the disruption of hypothalamus-pituitary-axis (HPA) axis, intensified immune status with elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines and arachidonic metabolites of COX-2 such as PGE2 creates a putative scenario in worsening the neurobehavioral facet of PTSD. This

Equine-Assisted Therapy in Post-Traumatic-Stress Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Alternative treatments for Post-traumatic-Stress Disorder (PTSD) have attracted attention, especially Equine-Assisted Services (EAS) including psychotherapy and occupational therapy involving horses. In this work, we measured the effectiveness of EAS in PTSD through a meta-analysis. An intensive bibliography search focusing in EAS and PTSD was conducted following the PRISMA recommendations. The search was not restricted by date. For the quantitative analyses, 5 works were selected. They were chosen based on the instrument utilized for the assessment of PTSD symptoms: the PTSD Checklist for DSM

Post-traumatic stress disorder symptom remission and cognition in a large cohort of civilian women.

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with cognitive impairments. It is unclear whether problems persist after PTSD symptoms remit. METHODS: Data came from 12 270 trauma-exposed women in the Nurses' Health Study II. Trauma and PTSD symptoms were assessed using validated scales to determine PTSD status as of 2008 (trauma/no PTSD, remitted PTSD, unresolved PTSD) and symptom severity (lifetime and past-month). Starting in 2014, cognitive function was assessed using the Cogstate Brief Battery every 6 or 12 months for up to 24 months. PTSD associations with baseline cogni

A Systematic Review of Interventions for Prevention and Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Following Childbirth.

OBJECTIVE: Postpartum women can develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in response to complicated, traumatic childbirth; prevalence of these events remains high in the U.S. Currently, there is no recommended treatment approach in routine peripartum care for preventing maternal childbirth-related PTSD (CB-PTSD) and lessening its severity. Here, we provide a systematic review of available clinical trials testing interventions for the prevention and indication of CB-PTSD. DATA SOURCES: We conducted a systematic review of PsycInfo, PsycArticles, PubMed (MEDLINE), ClinicalTrials.gov, CINAHL

Is There an Association between Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and the Incidence of Chronic Low Back Pain?

BACKGROUND: Preliminary research suggests post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a risk factor for chronic low back pain (CLBP). However, this literature displays some limitations. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association between PTSD and the 10-year cumulative incidence of CLBP in adults from Germany. METHODS: The present retrospective cohort study included adults diagnosed with PTSD in 1 of 1284 general practices in Germany in 2005-2020 (index date). Individuals without PTSD were matched to those with PTSD (1:1) using a propensity score based on age, sex, index year, dur
