Toxicological analysis of hair was used to detect cocaine use in a group of 615 pregnant women. Hair samples were washed, enzymatically digested, and analyzed by radioimmunoassay for cocaine. Positive results were confirmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry after a solid-phase extraction. Nevertheless, due to the hidden vulnerabilities of persons who are without shelter, little is known about their experiences during periods of homelessness. Bromazolam is a new psychoactive substance (NPS) benzodiazepine commonly identified by drug checking services and in post-mortem toxicological analyses in the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America. At the time of writing, there are no studies that present quantitative analyses of bromazolam in street tablets. Between 2019 and 2023, blood and urine samples of 6229 suspected impaired drivers were analysed, with a positivity rate of 91.5 %. Classical illicit drugs were detected in 4693 drivers, medicines in 850 drivers, stimulant new psychoactive substances (sNPS) in 928 drivers and synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists (SCRAs) in 657 drivers. It is of interest to investigate trends in AAS usage profile. Here we aimed to retrospectively study the prevalence of AAS-positive samples based on 21,172 consecutive analyses from routine AAS testing 2014-2023. Moreover, 310 urine samples from 2022 to 2023 were reanalyzed for a broader AAS panel as well as for the presence of narcotics. BACKGROUND: Interventions aimed to mitigate drug-related harm include drug checking, which invloves a chemical analysis of a drug sample alongside personalized harm reduction advise. The Drug Information and Monitoring System (DIMS) represents a network of Drug Checking Services (DCS) in the Netherlands, which people who use drugs (PWUD) may visit before consumption, though not consistently. This paper describes the characteristics and experienced effects of PWUD who have their drugs tested after use, in relation to the analysis results of the submitted drug sample and the setting of use.
