Iatrogenic Parasitic Leiomyoma in the Lower Right Abdomen: A Rare Case in Plastic Surgery.

A parasitic leiomyoma has no connection with the uterus itself and obtains its blood supply from the surrounding tissues. A parasitic leiomyoma that develops iatrogenically is called an iatrogenic parasitic leiomyoma. Clinical reports on parasitic leiomyoma are common in gynecology but not in plastic surgery. We report a rare case of an iatrogenic parasitic leiomyoma in a 46-year-old woman who was referred to our plastic surgery department. She presented with the main complaint of a subcutaneous mass in the lower right abdomen and had a history of laparoscopic myomectomy eight years ago. Magne

Radial Nerve Palsy Due to Blood Pressure Cuff Compression after Prolonged Combined Plastic Surgery.

As plastic surgery procedures become safer and more popular, the number of patients undergoing cosmetic surgery will rise. A recent trend in plastic surgery has been a rise in combining multiple procedures in a single setting. Such an approach has the advantage of lower surgical cost to the patient and affords the patient a reduced downtime from work. Although the complication profile of patients undergoing plastic surgery is well documented, combining procedures prolongs operation time, which has been associated with a significant increase in the risk of complications. Our case report describ

Warren B. Davis and the Birth of Plastic Surgery in Philadelphia: A Historical Vignette.

The field of plastic surgery, formally organized in 1931 with the founding of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, was shaped in many ways by a small practice of Philadelphia physicians. At the center of the practice was Warren B. Davis, a Philadelphia otolaryngologist and plastics pioneer whose innovations in cleft palate surgery would lead to significant improvements in functional and cosmetic outcomes in his time. In addition to his own innovations, Davis was responsible for the training of John Reese, the inventor of the Reese dermatome that changed the face of burn

Reflecting on Plastic Surgery Training During Early COVID-19 Pandemic: Resident Exposure and Telemedicine.

PURPOSE: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been an unprecedented public health crisis. As hospitals took measures to increase their capacity to manage COVID-19 patients, plastic surgeons have also had to modify their routine to continue serving their vital role within the hospital environment. In an effort to reduce exposure to COVID-19 and conserve hospital resources, many plastic surgery programs drastically modified call schedules, restructured inpatient teams, triaged operative cases, and expanded telemedicine encounters. Plastic surgery programs focused on craniofacial proc
