Teaching Craft Intelligence: Sovereignty Protocols for AI-Mediated Student Leadership.

Artificial intelligence (AI) now mediates how student leaders learn and decide, creating a speed imperative that often rewards algorithmic fluency over human judgment and intercultural accountability. This article argues student leadership programs can turn AI from a plagiarism risk into a laboratory for craft intelligence (transforming knowledge and lived experience into sound judgment in action) and deliberate stewardship, which safeguards how knowledge is created, tested, and shared. It maps four perils (e.g., inquiry collapse, context erasure, algorithmic authority, and cultural narrowing)

Effectiveness of Different Teaching Modalities in Human Gross Anatomy Education.

With increasing cost and time constraints, anatomy education has shifted away from classic dissection in favor of more effective teaching modalities. Here we investigated different teaching modalities on test performance and student satisfaction in the human gross anatomy laboratory at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM). The anatomy laboratory for first-year osteopathic students at NYITCOM was divided into stations including radiology, case-based learning, prosection, and dissection. Content covered at those stations was tested via anatomy laboratory…

Teaching Hospitals and Textbook Outcomes After Major Urologic Cancer Surgery.

OBJECTIVE: To assess textbook outcomes by hospital teaching status following major surgery for urologic cancers. METHODS: We used 100% national Medicare Provider Analysis and Review files from 2017-2020 to assess rates of textbook outcomes in patients undergoing bladder (ie, radical cystectomy), kidney (ie, radical or partial nephrectomy), and prostate (ie, radical prostatectomy) surgery for genitourinary malignancies. The extent of integration of learners into each hospital's workforce-defined as major, minor, and non teaching hospitals-was the primary exposure. A textbook outcome, measured …

Teaching and Practicing Congenital Hand Surgery in Cambodia - Lessons Learnt.

The global burden of surgical conditions is becoming increasingly prevalent in the developing world. Hand surgery, in particular congenital hand surgery, presents with its own challenges, particularly the unique skill sets needed, multidisciplinary nature and heterogeneity of cases. The aim of this review article is to present our experience of practising congenital hand surgery in Cambodia, and to explore the feasibility of teaching this specialty in developing countries within a meaningful and sustainable framework. Since 2013, a group of hand surgeons and therapists have visited the Childre…

Animated teaching improves student learning of human gastrulation and neurulation.

Human embryology is a complex topic that brings together core components of anatomy and physiology to describe the developmental process from fertilisation to birth. Embryonic development is a challenging topic of study that is core to the curricula for health science students. There are challenges ingrained in teaching and learning embryology, due to the three-dimensional dynamic processes that occur as the embryo develops. This study aimed to develop and assess two newly developed animations depicting key processes in embryology, namely gastrulation and neurulation, as supplemental learning …

Exertional Dyspnea Incidentally Diagnosed as Sarcoidosis: A Teaching Hospital Experience.

BACKGROUND: Sarcoidosis is a complex disease with nonspecific etiology and clinical presentation. Its diagnosis is often delayed due to the absence of a single specific investigation modality. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary for its diagnosis. Report. A 49-year-old male presented with recurrent dyspnea on exertion, easy fatigue, and chest pain after several visits to different health facilities over 5 months. A diagnosis of pulmonary sarcoidosis was made after a series of laboratory and imaging investigations were done revealing bilateral reticonodular opacifications, noncaseating gr

Learning graphic symbols in two languages: Effects of monolingual teaching.

PURPOSE: Limited research exists to guide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) intervention for children from multilingual backgrounds. When a graphic symbol-based AAC system is provided to children, they need to learn the meaning of the graphic symbols. This study determined the effect of teaching the association between a graphic symbol and a spoken word in one language on the ability of bilingual children without disabilities to transfer this learning to their second language. METHOD: A one-group pre-test-post-test design was used. The ability of 30 English-Afrikaans bilingual …
