Use of Doppler ultrasonography for selection of recipients in embryo transfer programs in horses.

We aimed to evaluate the impact of corpus luteum (CL) and uterine characteristics accessed by B-mode and Color-Doppler ultrasonography in recipient mares at the time of embryo transfer (ET) on pregnancy outcomes. Recipient mares (n = 110), between days 3-9 after spontaneous ovulation, received a fresh embryo. Immediately before ET, the reproductive system was assessed by transrectal palpation for the following parameters: uterine tone (0-3), CL echogenicity (0-6), CL type (homogeneous, trabecular or anechoic center), luteal area (cm2), uterine echogenicity (0-3), uterine edema (0-3), luteal bl

Prenatal Diagnosis of a Retroesophageal Left Brachiocephalic Vein: Two Case Reports.

A retroesophageal left brachiocephalic vein is an extremely rare anomaly and has only been reported in 6 postnatal cases. Two prenatally diagnosed cases are reported. On the 3-vessel view, the vein appears as an aberrant vessel transversely coursing behind the aorta and trachea, which subsequently drains into the superior vena cava, giving rise to a U-shaped configuration. On color Doppler sonography, the U sign is bicolored. This anomaly should prompt the sonographer to carefully assess for other congenital heart defects, suggest consideration for genetic testing, and alert the cardiologist b

Ultrasound Detection of Bladder-Uterovaginal Anastomoses in Morbidly Adherent Placenta.

Vascular control is a fundamental step in the surgical management of morbidly adherent placenta (MAP), and this implies a precise knowledge of the vascular supply in the lower part of the genital tract. High degrees of MAP are sometimes characterised by the presence of a rich vascular anastomotic system between the bladder, uterus, and vagina involving the superior, medial, and inferior vaginal and the lower vesical arteries. This brief report shows that prenatal ultrasound assessment of bladder-uterovaginal anastomoses in MAP is feasible.

Identification of arterio-venous anastomoses in vivo in monochorionic twin pregnancies: preliminary report.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether it is possible to identify in vivo placental arterio-venous anastomoses (AVAs) by color Doppler flow mapping. METHODS: Three monochorionic twin pregnancies (one with and two without twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome) underwent placental mapping by color Doppler ultrasound. Placental vessels along the chorionic plate were recorded together with the direction of blood flow and their location in relation to the cord insertions and to superficial arterio-arterial anastomoses. Suggestive AVAs were mapped topographically and results were compared with the findings of

Ultrasound estimate of amniotic fluid volume: color Doppler overdiagnosis of oligohydramnios.

OBJECTIVE: To determine if concurrent use of color Doppler affects ultrasound estimates of amniotic fluid (AF) volume. METHODS: Study gravidas underwent ultrasound estimations of AF volume subjectively (visualization without measurements) and objectively (using amniotic fluid index [AFI]) and single-deepest pocket techniques, without and with concurrent color Doppler. Amniocentesis with the dye-dilution technique to measure actual AF volume was utilized for comparison. RESULTS: Sixty-seven women at a mean gestational age of 37.1 +/- 2.5 weeks were entered into this investigation between June

Doppler US in rheumatic diseases with special emphasis on rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis.

Developments in digital ultrasonography (US) technology and the use of high-frequency broadband transducers have increased the quality of US imaging, particularly of superficial tissues. Thus, US, particularly color US or power Doppler US, in which high-resolution transducers are used, has become an important imaging modality in the assessment of rheumatic diseases. Furthermore, therapeutic interventions and biopsies can be performed under US guidance during the assessment of lesions. In this era of effective treatments, such as biologics, improvements in synovial inflammation in rheumatoid ar

Mid- to long-term outcomes of covered balloon-expandable stent implantation for the management of vascular injuries in patients undergoing transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation: the BE-SAFE Registry : for the RECOVER (REsults after percutaneous interventions with COVERed stents) Investigators.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Vascular complications occur in a non-negligible proportion of transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation (Tf-TAVI) procedures. There is only limited evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of covered balloon-expandable (CBE) stents in the management of Tf-TAVI related vascular complications. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of CBE stent implantation to treat access-related vascular complications in patients undergoing Tf-TAVI. METHODS: The present retrospective analysis included patients undergoing CBE stent implantation following Tf-TAVI from

Prenatal ultrasound diagnoses fetal amniotic band syndrome causing fetal gastroschisis: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Amniotic band syndrome (ABS) is a congenital disease which occurs before 12 weeks of gestation. The rupture of the fiber bundle or fiber sheath around the embryo or fetus, resulting in the fetal development of this site is affected, eventually leading to deformity. But now, there are few case reports of abdominal wall fissure and visceral valgus caused by ABS. This case can broaden our horizon and let us learn more about ABS. CASE PRESENTATION: Female, 25 years old, the yellow race, primiparida, color ultrasound in early pregnancy and color doppler ultrasound at 11 to 13 weeks sug

Non-contrast microvascular flow imaging in abdominal ultrasound: a pictorial essay.

The evaluation of low-velocity blood flow and complex vascular patterns remains a recognized limitation of conventional color Doppler ultrasound in abdominal imaging. Microvascular flow imaging (MV-Flow) is an advanced Doppler technique designed to enhance sensitivity to slow and heterogeneous blood flow while effectively suppressing tissue motion artifacts. This pictorial essay illustrates the main sonographic applications of MV-Flow across a wide spectrum of abdominal clinical scenarios, including arterial flow alterations, venous and portal vascular disorders, post-transplantation hemodynam

Not everything that is red is hemangioma.

PURPOSE: To demonstrate the utility of ultrasound and color Doppler examination in differentiating red skin lesions. METHODS: We used high-frequency probes to identify common features of infantile hemangioma that can help distinguish it from other red skin lesions. RESULTS: In the pediatric population red skin lesions are frequently encountered in clinical practice. The most common red skin lesion is infantile hemangioma, which, in most cases, can be easily diagnosed clinically. An ultrasound examination is necessary to evaluate the lesion's depth or determine its proximity to nearby critica

Use of contrast enhanced ultrasound in testicular diseases: A comprehensive review.

BACKGROUND: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is a sonographic technique that increases the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound and color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS) when studying testicular abnormalities. However, its role in clinical practice is still debatable because there are no accepted standards regarding how and when this technique should be used for patients with testicular disease. OBJECTIVES: To perform a nonsystematic review of the current literature to highlight the strength and flaws of performing CEUS and to provide a critical overview of current research evidence on this topic.

The Borderline-Size Appendix: Grayscale, Color Doppler, and Spectral Doppler Findings That Improve Specificity for the Sonographic Diagnosis of Acute Appendicitis.

Diagnostic criteria for acute appendicitis using graded compression sonography have been well established based on the maximum outer diameter (MOD) of the appendix, with MOD values of <6 mm nearly always indicating normal appendices and MOD values of >8 mm nearly always indicating appendicitis. However, the "borderline-size" appendix, meaning one whose MOD lies between these ranges (ie, an appendix with MOD of 6-8 mm), presents a diagnostic dilemma because appendices in this size range are neither clearly normal nor abnormal when diagnosis is based on the MOD alone; accordingly, such borderlin

Prenatal diagnosis of a vein of Galen aneurysmal malformation using color Doppler ultrasound: a case report.

Vein of Galen aneurysms are a rare and complex vascular malformation of the brain. Their prevalence is somewhat less than 1 in 25,000 deliveries. Common associated anomalies include ventriculomegaly, cardiomegaly secondary to high cardiac output and enlarged neck vessels, the later being an almost pathognomonic sign. The prognosis for these neonates is poor with a mortality rate of 50% and a high risk for neurologic sequelae. Color flow Doppler studies of the fetal brain vasculature are a reliable method for diagnostic purposes. In this paper we present a case of a vein of Galen malformation d

The role of color and power Doppler ultrasound in the prenatal diagnosis of sirenomelia.

Sirenomelia is a rare congenital abnormality characterized by a variety of anomalies involving the lower limbs, severe oligohydramnios, bilateral renal agenesis, anorectal atresia and aberrant fetal vasculature. The prenatal diagnosis and differentiation from isolated bilateral renal agenesis is severely limited by the accompanying oligohydramnios that hinders visualization of fetal anatomy. We present three prospectively assessed cases of sirenomelia, two of which had bilateral renal agenesis, and all of which had a single umbilical artery derived from the aberrant vasculature that accompanie
