Wearable bioelectronics are dominated by low-power sensing, whereas effective therapy requires sustained molecular fluxes that conventional soft devices rarely support. A central challenge is simultaneously maintaining solid-solid charge transport, hydration-dependent ionic conduction, and biofluid resistance within a lightweight, fixture-free architecture. Here, we report a vapor-fed electrochemical materials architecture for skin-conformal oxygen delivery. The system integrates a mechanically interlocking 3D current collector/catalyst interface to stabilize electronic transport, femtosecond-

A review of six patients with severe lower extremity injuries (four of six with grade IIIB tibia fractures), resulting from combat in Somalia, was undertaken to identify patterns of injury, treatment, and problems unique to combat injuries. An AK-47 gunshot was the mechanism of injury in five of six patients. Muscle flaps were required in all patients (four pedicled muscle flaps and three free vascularized flaps), with five of six patients undergoing flap closure during the subacute phase. Ilizarov devices were used in three of four grade IIIB tibia fractures. Five major nerve injuries were id

BACKGROUND: Transradial access (TRad) is becoming the preferred access for cardiac catheterization. The use and safety of TRad in noncoronary and peripheral vascular interventions remains ill-defined and serves as the basis for this study.
METHODS: Patients undergoing noncoronary and peripheral endovascular procedures via TRad from August 2010 to February 2013 at our institution were reviewed retrospectively. Demographic data, indications, interventions performed, sheath size, procedural outcomes, and access-site complications were evaluated. Postprocedural radial artery patency and hand isch

BACKGROUND: Aortic pseudoaneurysm (AP) is a late complication of aortic repair that, without intervention, carries a high mortality rate. Surgical repair has significant in-hospital mortality and high health care costs. Endovascular stent grafting use is currently limited to branch-free aortic segments or the use of complex fenestrated devices. Our objective was to review the literature and share our institution's experience with AP percutaneous closure by vascular plugs and occluder technology.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed percutaneous AP closure cases published in the literature (20

Salvage of diffuse ankle osteomyelitis, especially in compromised hosts, is a challenging problem. The purpose of this report was to evaluate early complications and results using a standardized salvage protocol. Eight patients with diffuse ankle osteomyelitis were treated by resection of all infected tiissue and hybrid-frame compression arthrodesis. At presentation, five had open wounds. According to the Cierny/Mader classification, all had diffuse anatomic involvement and six of eight were compromised hosts. Seven had central distal tibial column involvement and one had primarily talar invol

OBJECTIVES: Transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become the preferred approach for treating aortic stenosis in patients over 70 years. Despite advancements in technology and operator experience, major vascular complications (MVCs) remain a concern, potentially affecting outcomes. This study aimed to assess the incidence, risk factors, and clinical impact of MVCs following transfemoral TAVI using propensity score matching.
METHODS: We retrospectively analysed patients who underwent transfemoral TAVI. Patients were divided into 2 groups: patients who developed MVCs (M

BACKGROUND: Reported complication rates after vascular closure device deployment or femoral manual compression (MC) are similar. However, the features and severity of such complications have never been thoroughly evaluated.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A consecutive series of 1241 patients treated from 2008 to 2010 with Angio-Seal (AS) was prospectively evaluated for vascular complications (VC). As control group, we used a consecutive series of 672 patients treated with MC in the 7 months preceding AS adoption at our institution. VC were observed in 88 patients, 55 with AS and 33 with MC (relative ri

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous mitral paravalvular leak (PVL) closure in patients with double mechanical valves presents substantial technical challenges when conventional transseptal antegrade approaches fail. Transapical puncture, while an alternative, carries significant risks including hemothorax and coronary injury. Safe and reliable left ventricular (LV) access without high-risk transapical puncture remains a critical unmet need in complex structural heart interventions.
METHODS: A 69-year-old woman with mechanical mitral and aortic valve replacements and persistent PVL despite prior percutan

BACKGROUND: The data on the use of Gore Cardioform Septal Occluder (GCA; W. L. Gore and Associates, Inc.) for atrial septal defect (ASD) with deficient rims is limited.
METHODS: All patients evaluated by transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) for ASD occlusion were included. TEE planes at 35°, 0°, and 90° were assessed for anterior-superior (AS) and posterior (P), anterior-inferior (AI) and posterior-superior (PS), as well as superior (S) and inferior (I) rims. ASD size >20 mm, and rims less than 5 mm were defined as large and deficient, respectively. We included patients who had a procedural f

BACKGROUND: Staged palliative surgery is often required to regulate pulmonary and systemic blood flow in children with complex congenital heart disease. Accessory sources of pulmonary blood flow have been utilized to provide satisfactory pulmonary blood flow after Glenn anastomosis in select patients. Prolonged exposure to increased flow can lead to elevated pulmonary arterial pressures and volume loading of the ventricle, potentially limiting candidacy for Fontan completion.
OBJECTIVE: To review the feasibility, technique, and outcome of transcatheter closure of the Sano conduit utilizing th

BACKGROUND: Vascular and bleeding events remain the main complications after balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV). While BAV is usually performed with per procedural heparin injection, BAV performed without heparin may reduce hemorrhagic events. We aimed to determine whether vascular and bleeding complications may be reduced with BAV performed without heparin.
METHODS: This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted from January 2013 to September 2016. Patients were randomly assigned to placebo or intravenous unfractionated heparin (UH) 50 IU/kg bolus during the procedure.

BACKGROUND: Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) results in pulmonary overcirculation and, depending on ductal size and patient age, may lead to symptoms of congestive heart failure and the development of pulmonary hypertension, among other complications. Percutaneous closure is currently considered the first-line option in most patients, depending on clinical and anatomical characteristics. Approved PDA occlusion devices are tailored to specific ductal morphologies; therefore, off-label devices such as muscular ventricular septal defect occluders, vascular plug II, or atrial septal defect occluders

INTRODUCTION: Post-infarction ventricular septal defect (PIVSD) is one of the most serious mechanical complications of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Over the last decade, percutaneous closure is increasingly undertaken, with results similar to cardiac surgery. We present a case of ST-elevated anterior AMI, complicated by apical PIVSD successfully treated with transcatheter closure.
CASE REPORT: An 83-year-old man was hospitalized for chest pain occurred 18 hours before, during the night time. He was an active smoker. Clinical examination revealed normal heart sounds and pulmonary bibasil

INTRODUCTION: Atrial septal defects (ASD) are among the most common congenital anomalies and account for 10% of congenital heart disease in the pediatric age-group and 30% in adults. Closure is indicated when there is evidence of hemodynamic significance or after a paradoxical embolic event. Ten years ago, percutaneous closure became the treatment of choice in our center for all patients with a clear indication and favorable anatomy. In this paper we report the experience of this first decade.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the short- and long-term results of our ten-year experience with percutaneous c

The commonly used closing clips do not fully meet clinical requirements. For instance, non-degradable titanium and plastic clips remain in the body permanently, resulting in tissue lesions due to prolonged stimulation of the surrounding tissues, and degradable polymer clips typically possess weak mechanical properties and may produce irritating degradation products. In this work, we report a promising, multifunctional, and degradable high-purity magnesium (HP-Mg) closing clip to conquer the limitations of existing clinical closing clips. The HP-Mg closing clips possess enhanced clamping capabi

Early discharge strategies are associated with lower cost and resource utilization during hospitalization, as such we sought to evaluate trends, predictors and outcomes of the next day discharge (NDD) approach after transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR) procedures with the MitraClip device. The National Inpatient Sample (NIS) was queried between 2013 and 2018 for patients undergoing TMVR using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) 9 procedure code '3597' and ICD-10 procedure code '02UG3JZ'. Patients undergoing TMVR were stratified into two groups, determined by hospital length

OBJECTIVE: Although the use of closure devices (CD) for femoral artery antegrade access (AA) is not in the instructions for use (IFU) for many devices, AA has been reported to be associated with a lower incidence of access site complications compared to manual compression alone. We hypothesized that CD use for AA would not be associated with a clinically significant increased odds of access site complications compared to CD use for retrograde access (RA).

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is a rare autosomal dominant vascular disease with a high risk of iron deficiency anemia secondary to epistaxis and gastrointestinal bleeding. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with a high risk of ischemic stroke and oral anticoagulation therapy is indicated for its prevention. Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) is recommended to prevent stroke in patients with AF and high risk of bleeding such as HHT patients. However, double antiplatelet therapy at first, followed by long-term single antiplatelet therapy, is also recommended aft
