In order to evaluate the efficacy of topical khellin the vitiligo macules of one side only were painted in 41 patients with a 2% solution of khellin in acetone and propylene glycol (90 and 10%, respectively) and exposed to sunlight for a period of 4 months with 3 weekly applications and with exposure times up to 90 min. The examination of 623 melanoma patients in North Germany yielded the depigmentation disorder vitiligo in 23 cases (i.e. 3.7%). In 11 patients, the disease preceded their tumor, whereas in 11 patients, vitiligo developed after diagnosis of primary and/or metastatic melanoma into the regional lymph nodes. 139 patients with vitiligo of long duration were treated with oral 8-MOP and UVA. 22 patients had focal and 117 generalized vitiligo. 27 had vitiligo on the skin of their face and/or neck and 58 on their hands and/or feet. We examined 223 consecutive patients with vitiligo for ocular disease and 154 consecutive patients with uveitis for vitiligo to better determine the nature of the relationship between vitiligo and ocular disease. Of the 129 patients whose uveitis had an unknown cause, seven (5.4%) had cutaneous depigmentation, poliosis, or early graying of hair.
